THis may be a stupid question so I apologize in advance. Here it goes, Does downloading the SDK give you access to the beta software? I would really like to try the exchange functionality on my 2g before getting a 3g

No, it does not. To get the Beta Firmware, you must be an official developer, and there are few of these. However, the 2.0 software will be a free download for existing iPhone owners when it comes out early next month.

THanks John. My concern is battery life I have a source that is telling me the 3g/exchange combo is a battery killer because the 3g is a constant stream (always sending and receiving) where as 2g is more packetized, hence, less draw on the battery. I am being told less than 6-7 hours on full charge when utilizing the 3g/exchange combo.

You are more than likely correct. If that's the case, then there must be a way to disable the exchange.

Or maybe, a way to set up time intervals for the device to reach out to the server, IE: every 15mins, 30mins, etc.
