View Full Version : Is It Normal for iPhone To Keep Requiring Network Resets?

Starting last week, I've experienced countless hours where I would supposedly have full cellular access, but no EDGE connectivity. At first, I didn't even have telephonic ability. Lately, however, EDGE connectivity is slow or halts with the famous messages of not being able to connect to the server, or that EDGE requires activation.

In another post, I suggested the idea that it may have been jailbreak/unlock related. I'm currently jailbroken/unlocked using Pwnage on AT&T. I restored to a virgin jailbreak firmware that I made and the problem reappeared today. I restored to stock firmware, and the problem persisted today.

Resetting network connections seems to temporarily solve the problem, but the issue reappears until I reset it again. And again.

The question I have is whether this issue is a network issue and thus out of my hands, or is there something else I've not done. It also seems unusual to require resets all the time.

Any thoughts?

That isnt normal, depending on the area you live in, it could possibly be normal? But try resetting all settings and then if that doesnt work, then you should do a restore.

If the problem persists after doing the restore (it has), what does that suggest as a possible problem?

Whatever you did somehow managed to permanently damage the phones antennas?

What is really odd is that everything was up until last week. I was playing Travian pretty hard, and I lost my EDGE connection. After restoring last week, everything seemed to work until yesterday when the EDGE connection would not stabilize. Last week, I couldn't make or receive calls. This week, I can.

I ran the iPhone speed test. The numbers seem to go across the board from a low of 30 kbps to a high over 100 kbps. Today I noticed a really long lag time between the moment I start opening a web page to the moment it starts to load.

If I had a radio problem, would I still be able to make and receive calls?

Well I guess it would depend on the problem. If they were somehow damaged, if it was mild, I guess it would work sometimes like in your case, but if it were pretty harshly damaged, I dont think you would be able to do anything involving EDGE and stuff.

Also, I reallllly dont see how the antennas could be damaged internally without doing anything with the phone physically (shut it lol). But I guess it could be possible as doing restores dont do anything.

Also, I mean ive had an iPhone with the Hum app and it was making too high pitched sounds, and it physically damaged my speakers. But thats a different case though. I was just trying to make a point that downloaded apps could cause it, but to something that doesnt really do anything physically like making sound etc.
