This is a rumor (http://www.iphonedownloadblog.com/the-new-iphone-will-have-copypaste/) we actually haven't heard about but I am pretty confident that the new version of the iphone will have the copy/paste feature. Why? Well, Apple is pretty much releasing this new phone for business customers, competing directly with blackberry. Apple knows that if they want to gain market shares on business customers, they will have to cater them with features they want (push email, ability to save attachments, and of course, copy/pasting). What do you think?

do you think gps will be automaticaly on or off. I'm hoping you have to manually turn it on so the battery doesn't die in 5 hours.

I can't say, but it should certainly have an on/off switch.

Same here. I will be overjoyed when copy & paste is finally available, though.

What exactly would you use copy & paste for? Just curious as I never used it on my Pearl, or needed it since my iDay.

There are many uses, but one is you might want to copy a web link and paste it in an email.

Or if you want to use the always CONVENIENT viewmymessage website that requires you to put the code and password in. They could save us a whole heap of trouble by writing MMS into the software...

Where's gold member??? (avatar)
Thanks for noticing
I thought it was time for a change. I think the new one is still appropriate for the user name. Quagmire is a bit of a perv, too. :tounge:

copy and paste has nothing to do with a new iphone. its just software. all they have to do is write the program to do it...and the same with mms, its all programming.
iphone v2, hardware is 3g and possible gps...which i doubt...
just my 2 cents

the problem here is you are being logical. Logically, it should have been there since the beginning, so that's out the window.
i have accepted the fact that (for whatever reason) apple does not WANT iphone to have c&p. there is no reason for them to change that view.

I'm with Hippo. I don't think we'll see it on the phone.

Can we take it that this means version 2 software for iphone 1 will also have it? Maybe???

Apple likes to keep their UI's very minimalistic. The current iPhone UI just isn't ready/prepared for these kind of features. And honestly, to preserve the simplicity and speed of the iPhone, I could live without copy & paste.

Didn't System 9 have copy & paste?
There are many uses, but one is you might want to copy a web link and paste it in an email.
Wouldn't you just load the page then tap the plus (+) to mail the link? Or did you mean something else?

Apple's well-documented approach, as seen in the iPod, is that all new features are not taken lately and that once you add a feature you can't remove it. They have definitely listened to customers in the past and added features that were initially excluded. I think there is a very good chance that iPhone OS 2 will include copy/paste:
Apple files patent for ... for .... iPhone COPY/PASTE! (http://weblogs.redeyechicago.com/iphoneblog/2008/02/apple-files-pat.html)
I thought I read a while back that someone had asked Jobs about it, maybe in an interview or just a random question, and he said they are working on it. :gasp:

Thank God. I can't tell you how many times the lack of MMS, copy/paste, and Flash all bothered me at the same time! I would get an MMS with AT&T's crappy viewmymessage link, which always takes years to load. After getting a funky user ID & password, I would have to switch back between SMS and Safari to get it all in. And then finally, I wouldn't even be able to view it because it's Flash content.
Hopefully they cure all three of these problems on iPhone 2.0. They're all very easy fixes. Safari is, by far, the best mobile web browser I've ever used, but they are crazy not to have included Flash. If they were worried about download speed and overloading content, they should have just included a menu option in Safari Settings to turn it off. Problem solved.

don't get your hopes up.
$100 says there's no copy and paste in the next update.

I think it is safari add-on features in installer. it is put in bookmarks as copy and paste. also iphone video recorder is very good, but you have to pay for it.

It most likely will just like you can turn on and off wifi and the mobile network. (Airplane Mode)
