What the frick? This is very frustrating. I know there are a lot of people activating but common...this just shows that Apple did their part and AT&T dropped the ball. i'm sure Apple is PO'd at them for not beefing up their activation servers. When you're a stellar company like Apple and you take on a partner....this is what happens, now Apple will get the blame because most people don't understand how this stuff works.

Ok, I feel better now. But my phone is STILL not activated.

or are you just at the point when the phone says "Waiting for AT&T Activation - This May Take Some Time"

I'm getting really tired of people complaining about "big bad AT&T". Cingular, the new AT&T, has always been a great company. Excuse me, but why would AT&T NEED big servers?!? Usually it is all just in stores. You don't usually activate phones online like this. I'm sure if 3 million people tried to buy something on apple.com all at once those servers wouldn't work too well either. Honestly, just show some patience. We have waited 5 months for this product, another day won't hurt at all.

Please... take this 5 oz brick off my hands. AT&T screwed up big time with their overwhelmed activation servers.

I'm so glad I spent the entire day waiting in the hot sun, dropping 2 x $600, only to sit here, staring at two worthless unactivated coasters.

I'd send you a pic, but my iPhone isn't activated. It's stuck on, "Activate iPhone. Connect to iTunes. Slide for Emergency".

I'll repost if/when I hear from AT&T.

You said it...except we've waited 6 mths..apple got their products to market, they did their part. AT&T knew it was going to be crazy so they should have prepared...they had more than 6 mths just like apple did....Yes, they do activate in the stores but they have central & regional servers, it's not a magic box under the store counter.

My point is, they had to know, they should have prepared their system. and btw, I've been a VERY satisfied Cingular/ATT Customer for years.

Me too. But think about it, it makes no sense to buy a bunch of extra servers just for one day.

More than anything, I rely on my cell phone for my business and right now, I'm cut-off. When I activated the iphone, it de-activated my black-berry, so I'm flyin' blind.

I live in OKC also and the AT&T store I went to (in Crossroads Mall) had only 40 phones. Luckily I was #30 in a line of over 100 people! I wonder why the Crossroads Mall got so few.

But I also activated w/in about 2 minutes. It was awesome!

what you don't know or realize is that att spent over 50 million dollars, spent over 100,000 training hours, and had 20,000 new hires. Att HAS upgraded networks. Dont be ignorant just cause your phones arent working.

Thanks for those wonderful stats Mr. Phantom...but read your own post...my phone is working fine....it's AT&T's network that CAN'T activate it. Maybe they hired the wrong 20,000 people.

100,000 training hours!!! People at my local AT&T store were telling people you could add a 2 GB stick and that edge was just a little slower than WiFi. They were clueless. I can't stand when people do not know the product line they are paid to know

Dude, do your homework before you post. iTunes is an interface, it's simply a pass through/hand-off to AT&T. We pay $$$ to AT&T for our service, not Apple.

Yea, only waited in line at the ATT store about 2 hours, I was next to go in (well actually 2nd from next) and the lady came out and said, sorry we are out of 8g ones LOL. So, went to the crazy mall to the Apple Store and no lines at all, got in and out in 5 min (really) and they had tons in stock still. Sheesh, I guess I was wrong by going to the ATT store thinking it be better there. Oh well, still happy, just waiting on the slow activation but I can be patient, I am sure there doing the best they can considering the traffic they have to handle.

after 10hours of waiting in the Vegas heat, I got my 8gig and went home to activate... No lie, took about 5mins tops. It was super smooth. Were all you people porting #'s from another provider? That's propably why it's taking awhile.

By the way, I'm writing this from my iPhone... This thing kicks ass!

Daniel, you are wrong. You did no research, or you would have posted it. I support iPhone/iTunes and can guarantee you the servers are with AT&T.

If your 'research' is simply someone who said something, scrub it before you make a fool of yourself any worse.

Hey Daniel,

The first e-mails received WERE FROM APPLE saying that the order has been passed to AT&T and now people are waiting for an activation from them. Don't be a rude ass. And what the hell is "stuiped" ??!!

at&t added 2000 people....not 20K...you were only 18K off

"And Stephenson said, "I think it's going to be an exciting evening." He said his company had added about 2,000 employees in an effort to handle what it expects will be large crowds."
