Hello,

I heard about being able to unlock the iphone and use it with other service providers. I have sprint as my cell phone provider does anyone know if i can unlock an iphone and use it with my plan that I have now? Just curious. Also where is the best place to purchase the iphone.

Sprint and Verizon are both CDMA technology carriers. The iPhone is GSM technology based. The two are incompatible. The best place to buy a new iPhone is the Apple store, followed by AT&T. These locations will sell you a locked device. You would then need to jailbreak and unlock using software such as ZiPhone or Pwnage.

You can get used, jailbroken and unlocked iPhones off Ebay. Once bought, just pop in a T-Mobile SIM (the only other GSM carrier in US), and sign up for T-zone data plans (5.99/mo). And, away you go...

As far as unlocking goes, Larry has you covered. As for the best to buy, it's the Apple Store in my opinion, but you could also get it at AT&T or eBay.

I got my phone at an AT&T store. I would have preferred to have gone to an apple store to do it, but it was more convenient to go AT&T. But i'll have you know it makes no difference. If i ever need help with the phone i can still go into apple, so what this boils down to is just go to one of those two authorized retailers and get it. You'll be fine from there.
