3G iPhone to Support 42 Mbps

I'm not a techy, so I don't know how fast 42 Mbps is, but it sounds fast enough for me. (One source on the site said you could download a 4 meg song in about 4 seconds)

"A senior executive for Australia's Telstra wireless carrier has allegedly told the region's ChannelNews that Apple's upcoming iPhone revision will be capable of supporting an advanced 3G connection at speeds of 42 megabits per second..."

A good question to ask is what download speed do we truly need on the iPhone to fully enjoy its features? The iPhone is not a desktop. It shouldn't require the same bandwidth. I can't see sucking down 5 GB of data on the iPhone in a single month.

I doubt the CPU could keep up with speeds that fast. Does the current iPhone use all available 802.11 bandwidth? I have no idea... curious...

No way..... Evdo rev-a, which is the data network sprint and verizon use, isn't even above 2 Mbit/second, and 3g is GSM's equivalent to that. Hell,afaik, cable internet doesn't even come close to that. Important things to remember: 1 byte is 8 bits, and these connection speeds are in bits, not bytes.

you will see that 42mbps is impossible for a phone to reach and very hard for a computer to reach
thats 5.25 MBps!
meaning you can download a song in about 1 second
now i would say most high speed connections are near about 1 MBps so there is no way that a phone would get close to that kind of speed

whoa, there's a difference between 1MBps and 1 Mbps. A b(bit) is 1/8 of a B(byte). You probably mean an average connection is 1Mbps. 1 MBps would be ridiculously fast.

I'm imagining 3G will deliver speeds from 1.5-2 Mbs... basically the equivalent of EVDO Rev. A. 42 Mbs support?!? What would someone do with that bandwidth on an iPhone?!? Stream 100 videos at once to my little phone? Hmm, I like. :laugh2:
