my brother and i both had verizon. my brother and i both bought iphones right after each other. my brother activated and synced on a PC. I am still attempting to activate on a MAC. I am still waiting for my "email". My brother has service and everything, his old number, the works. I got an email saying it would be 24 hours at least. It obviously isn't regional, or provider, why?

I think that's for some people that are porting numbers from other carriers.

I'm still waiting. It's been almost three hours since the first email about needing additional time to complete.:frown:

Same boat here...been waiting for an hour and a half now...for the freakin' email. I called the toll free number right off the bat (when I noticed my previous sim was deactivated within 10 minutes); they said all that they had been told was "shortly." I am an existing customer...and also in the southeast...which I've noticed alot of delayed customers are. Someone posted a while back that they wondered if they partitioned coverage across the US...and I'm pretty sure they do...so whatever point is handling the southeast may be the issue for renewing existing customers.....just speculation.

I'm new ATT customer and didn't port my old cell phone yet. I'll wait a few days before porting over my "official" cell number from TMobile.

Activation took only a couple of minutes. My iPhone can make calls and rings when I call it at the number assigned to me!!!!

Getting things synched up now.

Once the Apple store in Chandler, AZ opened at 6pm, we were about 80th in line, but walked out with the iPhone by 6:30pm. Apple, as usual, had the whole purchase process so well streamlined that they were moving iPhones out the door at an unbelievable pace.

Have to go play!

Me too. It has been a total of four hours since I started the activation process, I got the e-mail saying it would take additional time to complete about 2 hours ago, and I am still waiting.

After hours and hours waiting for this thing I am in complete limbo. My AT&T service has been shut off for over 2 hours!!!

Yup--!!
I'm a new AT&T customer been waiting for 3 hrs now.
I called that 877 # and a woman from AT&T in Ohio answered.
She said over 100.000 people were clogging the servers.
She looked up my name and SS#, said I was in the system and gave me my phone number.
The number isn't working yet.

Might get some sleep and wake up later to see what's up--

Mango-

P.S after waiting for 3 hrs they sold out of 8Gig Iphones--
I had to have it.

You all need to quit *****ing. I have been waiting for some hours too. Think about this...2 million phones were released today, and I bet you over a million tried to activate today. It's not something that a server can handle easily, no matter who it is. Quit your ****ing *****ing and wait for the morning, also expect iPhone updates in the upcomign weeks.

here is what an att rep just told me on the phone. I am trying to activate and port my number from Verizon and going on 13 hours now.

AT&T has finished their part in the activation and now its the Apple that is backed up on things. Once they finish their process, then I will get an email with a link to finish up the activation.

Dont know if this is the truth b/c I am still at the step that has to do with the processing of my credit card. Looks like ATT us just passing the buck!!!

Was on the phone with AT&T this morning. That is what she told me. She went through my information.. and made sure everything was correct and there wasn't anything standing in the way of getting ti activated. She also mentioned that the 24 hours thing is protocol when activating a new device with their own SIM.. She said that once 720 hit.. I should have no problem. But I still have a problem with the 720 bit.. but as long as it works..

There is nothing they can do - so now it may be 48 hours....
