Firstly, I'd like to say I did try to search for it, but "Update 2.0 VPN" brought back only results for "Update", So i apologize if it's been posted before.

The 100%, Main reason for keeping me from getting a Touch is the lack of support for PEAP wifi. I live on campus at a college that is blanketed with WiFi, but all use PEAP, so I'm out of luck.

Now I came across this page http://gizmodo.com/364788/iphone-20-update-available-for-free-in-june-touch-users-get-to-pay-up-again

It says "the addition of Cisco IPsec VPN for encrypted access to private corporate networks.". Turns out i have no clue what that means, but i'm hoping that it means PEAP will be supported, since I (think I) read somewhere PEAP is a Cisco product?

If not, I might as well just get a shuffle because there is no reason to spend that much if i can't browse the web at home, or college.

Be easy,
Joe.

i had to google PEAP to see what it was, and im still not 100% sure, but i dont think that is what it is. VPN stands for virtual private networks so im guessing the cisco thing is just more support for the type of networks that a lot of businesses use which i dont think is related to PEAP

Alright... damn.

Just from googling PEAP earlier today (As i had no idea what it was either), I found that tons of universities use it, as with some business. I think EAP and LEAP are almost the same.

I read it can be fixed with a software/firmware update, and was just hoping that might fix it.

Anybody else know?

I also live on a campus blanketed with wifi which requires users to authenticate with ProtectedEAP - PEAP. And I think it may actually be a piece of WPA and WPA2 encryption. WPA and WPA2 are the overall encryption methods and PEAP is one of the protocols used to authenticate users. WPA2 is coming to the 2.0 update. So if I was to guess I think that you should be able to join school/corporate wireless now that use it.

PEAP - which I think is just an commonly accepted authentication method for VPNs etc. - looks like it is supported in iPhone 2.0 software - check out this pic from the WWDC keynote on June 9th:

That's from about the 5:06 mark of the WWDC speech here (http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/0806wdt546x/event/index.html) ...
