A contributor over on the Handbrake forums (http://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=14&p=33549) has just released a tool called Muxo that allows users to add soft subtitles to the MP4 format.
These files can then be sent over to the iPhone (http://www.iphonealley.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5766#) and turned on and off at will instead of actually being encoded into the video itself. The user, who goes by the handle "Entropic" on the forum (http://www.iphonealley.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5766#)has stated that he designed Muxo as an accessory to Handbrake, allowing users to add SRT titles to ripped [DVD (http://www.iphonealley.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5766#)files. Once the converted files have been loaded on to the iPhone, users can access a menu that allows the subtitles to easily be turned on and off.
