video wallpaper is here!!!

has anyone tried the new vWallpaper. right now its only a test and it only plays 1 video but its got potential. the only problem i noticed with it is that when you are on your home screen the screen doesnt trun off, i guess it acts like something is being done by the user so the auto-lock doesnt kick in. im going to play around with it to see if i can replace its video with a custom video of mine. i will report back.

ok so i found where the movie is located. applications/vWallpaper.app/library/skrew/videos and the movie is fire.mov. i deleted it and replaced it with my own fire.mov but its still the original fireball that shows up. i double and tripple checked to make sure that it was my movie that i uploaded. i did a respring to the springboard and i even did a hard restart and still the original movie, that i deleted, plays. werid. guess il do a little more snooping around. if anyone knows what the solution might be that would be great and if i find the solution will let you guys know

ok i figured out how to change the video. you need to replace fire.mov with your own fire.mov in both applications/vWallpaper.app/library/skrew/videos/ and library/skrew/videos/ you just need to upload the same video in both locations and make sure that it is called fire.mov all lowercase

its not on the lock screen and so far it doesnt seem to run in the back ground. my battery doesnt seem to have drained any faster than ususal since i have installed.
im having trouble uploading a video to youtube so if someone else could do that for hayes and other people that would be great

EDIT: the only thing i hate about this is if you have it enabled and are listening to music, then go to the home screen, it stops the music =[

This is a very neat app. It would be very cool if it worked with the lock screen as well. I'll see if I can throw together a video for it tomorrow.

Okay. So I created s simple 320 by 480 video of some moving clouds in Quartz Composer. I uploaded it to both directories, both as clouds.mov and fire.mov, checked the permissions and neither would play.

You can get it easiest by installing the "Safari Add-on Features" from the ispazio source in Installer. Note that you will lose your bookmarks when you do this. But worth it!

Good question. Alltho I keep a an actual list of everything from mods to bookmarks to even contacts in a notebook because I know how easaly it can all go away and after no telling how many hrs of moding.

You can also use TimeCapsule (on installer) to backup stuff like that. Problem is, there will be no way to integrate your backed-up bookmarks with your new ones... i.e. no merged sync.

Holding the home button along with the lock for 7 seconds till you see the apple logo. But I doubt it will help you here.

Customize must have done it for me, uninstalled it (I never use it) and everything works fine now.

there might not be enough space left on that partition of the hard drive. there is an app on installer that allows you to increase the size of that partition. not sure of the name of the app right now so you might want to search for that. i am going off to bed now but i will search for that app tomm if you still need it

Plus, I've deleted over 10 megs of apps and am trying to put on less than 5 megs of video. Something is screwy with permissions (all 777 for all pertinent folders) but I can't figure it out.

never had a need to mess with permissions at all but i thought they generally needed to be set to 775, but i could easily be mistaken

Well it surely has to do with the way this thing is installing... or not in this case. When I go to install it, the "install" progress bar gets about 75% of the way, then Installer closes to the springboard. The vWallpaper icon does not appear until I manually respring. Then I can launch it and it appears to work fine. But it does not appear in my uninstall list in Installer, and I can go try to install it again and it gets to the same point and jumps to spring.

So I dunno. Time for bed on this one for today. Between this and my Tunewiki issues I'm about to punch something. Peace...

I really have had no problem with this app. Last night I installed it, categories and a few other apps, with vWallpaper being the first. I had some confusion after creating all caps folder names for categories, but when I installed apps after that was solved, they just went to springboard and I put them into their respective cetgories. I've also loaded those 6 movies from the one source and three of my own with no problem.

Go to download.com and search for Kate's Video Converter and convert into quicktime .mov files with the MPEG4 video codec with MACE6 Compression and all should go well after using WinSCP or whatever to put them into Library/Skrew/videos. Hope that helps people get videos on there. Also, my SBMPrefs has theme wallpaper, wallpaper and dim wallpaper off.

This might be a little late, when you go to settings in vWallpaper, turn the enable off, choose your video, turn enable back on, then restart springboard. Should work.

Hondamaker, try it again and do what I did and it should work. As for the ringtones, I just called my phone and my ringtones work fine. Don't give up on it. It's really a cool app.

EDIT: 'Fixed' that too, just double-clicked the home button to go to BossPrefs and when I exited that it was working fine even after I locked the screen and went back in. Moral of the story: Have the double-click home button enabled to go to an app and just press crap and restart and re-ftp until this app works. Real cool though even for version 0.3!

Oh, and don't have sound in your video unless you want that to play in the background. (You wouldn't would you?)

EDIT: HAH new problem, I 'fixed' the problem right after I got this posted (4th time's the charm transferring files!) but now I have a new problem, the video plays in front of the icons, over and over and over again and I can't use the touch screem even after hard reboots.)... It has sound in it which I didn't expect it to play. Thoughts? Thanks.

I just installed this app the other day and I figured I would replace the video with one of my own. Problem is, each time I try to replace the second of the two videos my ftp client gets in a wierd loop where it says:

[18:31:43] Getting attributes of "/Library/Skrew/Videos/fire.mov".

over an over and over and over..... and the average upload speed varies wildly from 100KB/s to 1.1MB/s while the acutal speed sticks at 6.64KB/s and the actual file size copied never changes.

I can copy fire.mov either to the "Library/..../videos" folder or the "Applications/..../Videos" folder first but when I try to copy the file for the second time it goes all screwy. I also turned off the Summerboard wallpaper and went to vWallpaper and turned the video wallpaper off so that it wouldn't try to replace a file that was in use. I even went so far as to take the same file, name one "fire.mov" and the other "weater.mov" and copy one to each directory (that worked fine) and then rename the "weater.mov" to "fire.mov" to try and trick it but that doesn't work; and copying "fire.mov" from one folder to the other doesn't work either. (Well it works, but the video wallpaper never plays, just a black screen.)

Any thoughts?

SSH to your iPhone, go to private/var/mobile/media and delete the DCIM folder, then disconnect and voila! Oh ****, that's french. I mean, Badda Boom Badda Bing!

what's weird is if I drag a video file over... it goes through the progress bar, then I get the error. Then on the iPhone I get a 45k version of the file that is a partial clip of the video I was trying to transfer....(!) What the heck is going on here??

My camera works with the app running...however it interferes with some media playback, specially videos except with those downloaded with mxtube.

New 0.5 version fixed a bunch of the bugs for me. Alomost all of them.

Camera works, videos play properly, etc.

The only thing is the wallpaper stops when I go to the springboard while listening to music.

The folder for videos changed too. In var/mobile now.

ok so after the release of .5 I decded to reinstall only with the same bla results. Touch screen does not work and when I'm turning the phone on it blinks the black and white lines several times along with a snowy blinking screen almost like and old television with bad reception. Any thoughts??

Simply amazing! I was hoping there would be a way to put flash or any other type of video on in place of the wallpaper.

I found a way to rationalize buying a 16gb iPhone today, so I activated it through iTunes, Ziphone'd it (don't worry, not the do-it-all option) to unlock and jailbreak, and installed this program. Everything worked flawlessly. I even downloaded the pack of 6 someone kindly posted earlier, as well as Napolean's guy stuck in a box. All work great. Incidently, there was only one place I needed to SSH them into to get them to work. Not sure why there neded to be two places. Perhaps that was for version 0.3 and below.

Use MxTube to search and download video loops. There are tons of them on Youtube (try "Blue Squares Loop" for example.... perfect for a background).

Use Mobilefinder to move them to the Skrew/Videos directory.

Well, you move it from var/mobile/media/MxTube to var/mobile/media/Skrew/Videos.

The problem I've found is that it's formatted incorrectly for the iPhone screen. So Ive been reconverting them using Videora with the proper formatting and it looks a lot better.

Yeah, Handbrake, Videora... anything we're using to get videos onto the phone work great for this app. You can change the aspect ratio and everything. I'm about to set up a video shoot of myself trying to get out of my iPhone. Gotta do it! :2cool:

Cool. This app is gonna kill a lot of time for me. Maybe even force me to learn iMovie a little more. And they say there are no enterprise-ready apps for the iPhone :)

also found out that it doesnt like anything over 30 mb..I also ran the gorillaz, clint eastwood a few times and it plays just fine and it weighs in at about 25 mb..

also try to find so time lapse photo streams..really nice..

i did a google search and i found nothing that did what i wanted. windows movie maker works but it still keep the aspect ratio so it will turn the video 90 degrees but add black bars on either side to keep the aspec ration. the other program from your search just seems to use stolen code from another program. but thanks anyways

What does the new .05 version have that the other one did not? Anyone notice anything different? I didn't. Maybe it fixed some bugs? I know mine had occasional issues.

now you dont need to place the .mov or mp4 files in two separate folders..

just in one folder: /private/var/mobile/Media/Skrew/Videos/

For now, just SSH or thru a direct connection using a different program to access the iPhone.

has anyone tried the new vWallpaper. right now its only a test and it only plays 1 video but its got potential. the only problem i noticed with it is that when you are on your home screen the screen doesnt trun off, i guess it acts like something is being done by the user so the auto-lock doesnt kick in. im going to play around with it to see if i can replace its video with a custom video of mine. i will report back.

I had 0.3 and got a home made video (.mov) to work. It was about 5MB but it had sound so I uninstalled that one and re-SSH'd a new copy without sound but it wouldn't work even after about 10 attempts (clean install of vWallpaper each time). So I gave up for a bit then saw 0.5 came out so tried again still with no luck...until....

I went to www.vwallpapers.com (http://www.vwallpapers.com) and downloaded some of their vids.

They work fine as long as you DON'T turn video wallpaper on/of and restart Springboard when you change the wallpaper (ignore the directions, just hot the home button to go back). My 5MB vid still doesnt work but oh well.

^So try that people who are having problems seeing their videos.

Also, the 'bug' about vWallpaper disabling auto-lock? I love it! I always lock my phone when not in use and this 'bug' keeps the phone active while i FTP to it!

I can't get this app to work still. Ever since I installed it I have had problems with my touch screen not working so I uninstalled it. Unfortunatly even after uninstalling I'm still having touch screen problems. I am 100 percent sure that this app is the reason I just dont know how to solve it without a compleat restore as new.

30mb is most certainly not the limit for vwallpapers. I just SSH'd a 77mb 6minute long video of Michael Jordan in "It's Gotta Be the Shoes" and it runs perfectly from start to finish, then loops again. Incidently, it is in iPod format, so I am about to see if a full movie will run. BRB

Final Edit
the 254mb mp4 works just fine. It's a full screen movie and it plays perfectly. Because it's full screen, it stretches the entire length of the screen unlike the 98mb widescreen video. That 98mb video has bars on top and bottom.

I don't think I'll try anymore vids as that 30minute video is plenty proof that 30mb is not the max. This app is my new favorite app.

You just have to take a video and convert it to a .mov file, and badda boom badd bing, you got a vWallpaper! Just place the video in /private/var/mobile/media/skrew/videos (I think). and you're good to go.

In addition to .mov files, you can also play mp4s. I have been adding short videos from my iPhone into the folder hondamaker showed you the path for. So far an mp4 at 254mb has played flawlessly. Of course, most people probably wouldn't want an entire feature-length film running in the background.

Make sure you're putting it in var/mobile/media/skrew/videos. not root, not library, not private, etc.

There is another update (0.7) but for some reason I cant update mine. It says I need to install SkrewCommon first. But when I attempt to install SkrewCommon it tells me I need to install SkrewCommon!! But thats what Im trying to do. I also tried to deinstall vWallpaper but when I attempt to deinstall guess what it tells me.... you guessed it, I need to install SkrewCommon first!!

Suddenly vwallpapers don't show up anymore.

I really don't know why and how exactly it came about because I was doing quite a number of things. I know I was trying to change my SMB theme, and was also syncing it with my laptop (because I was SSHing new vwallpapers).

Then all of a sudden it doesn't show the vwallpaper anymore. I have tried installing and uninstalling (even deleting the folders via SSH). However, it still doesn't work. The application is still there, but whenever I selected a new wallpaper, it doesn't show.

I have ScrewCommon installed and the 0.7 version of vWallpaper.

Help!

You know what Honda, for some reason I was a little afraid too. And my fears were almost realized when my phone froze on me after I rebooted and tried to activate video wallpaper. But I did another reboot and when it came back to my home screen the video wallpaper was working.
On another note, the video quality isnt up to par IMO so I uninstalled it. Not to mention, I dont like it when apps make my phone freeze.

i installed ScrewCommon because vWallpper did not work without it and everithing works great, had no problems, they made another updated and now the downlod section is available and there are 3 downloads there

quality update. one more video in the available section (well not really, they've just spelt weather wrong) three videos available for download, fireworks, lazershow and wave. just installing them now! GREAT app. my only worry is that it states that it is for testing only, i.e this is going to be an SDK release, so make the most of it before it costs you.

It's still a little buggy, so I'd wait for the next update to see if it fixes anything. I'm not real happy with the way it bogs down my phone. It causes lags and reboots at times.

I installed it today and seems to be working ok. However, my springboard refuses to change back to the lock screen after the normal 2 minutes...It appears as if it will just continue showing the springboard until the battery dies if you dont hit the top power button to send it to the lock screen..... Have'nt encountered all these other issues as of yet

That one is not just you at all. Has been a known issue in all version of vWallpaper so far I think - great for those SSH sessions where you don't want your screen to lock and break your session, not so great for all other times ...

You should only have to turn off theme wallpaper. Everything else works for me.
