Hi All

I have some videos from a dvd, which I would like to import them to i tunes, then synch to the i phone. I am so new to this, so any simple basic steps would be helpful. there are several versions on the DVd, video TS.INFO, VIDEO TS.BUP, VTS.VOB.

None of these makes any sense to a newbie.

What you are referring to is the DVD file structure itself. These files contain not only the video, but the menu information as well as information DVD players need to locate the particular feature you select from the menu. You can't use this information directly in iTunes. Instead, you will need a software package, e.g., Handbrake, to read this information directly off of your DVD or your hard drive, and convert it to a format which can be imported into iTunes and synced.

Keep in mind that not everything which can be imported into iTunes can be played on the iPhone. Keep also in mind that the DVD may contain two screen resolutions (4:3 and 16:9), multiple languages and subtitles.

The best way to learn is to go out and start. What computer platform are you using?

It can be a hassle, but consider this. If you are already buying the movie for viewing on TV and a DVD-Player, you can rip/encode/sync the movie to your iPhone at your discretion. You can delete the rip/encoded file when no longer needed and you find yourself short on space. I've ripped, encoded, watched and deleted a number of movies, a number of times.

I have to admit that the iTunes movie rental is good for test driving titles you're not sure you want to spend the $15 on for a DVD you'll only watch once.

I have a couple of iTunes movie downloads. You've paid for these movies and have no choice but to store them on your hard drive. You can copy and move the files, but you stil are constrained by both the Digital Rights Management (only you can play them on an authorized machine) and the need to maintain a copy.
