I've been invited by the Forum Administrators to introduce myself. I'll call myself Redondo (not my real name), but I understand the constraints and the pitfalls one often encounters when using their real one.
I'm a 60 year old IT professional who manages the servers, network, labs, and workstations at two different public schools. I work exclusively with Windows XP on our networks and in our classrooms/labs but have been a Mac Fanboy since the early 80's.
In the course of my employment I was provided with a rather mundane phone using T-Mobile. That phone REALLY had it's issues and I longed for Blackberry or iPhone. I finally took the plunge. Purchased an unlocked iPhone on ebay and put my T-Mobile SIM in it. WOW, what a difference.
Typically, in the course of my working day, I'm using the phone constantly. I can check my emails, take and send photos, take notes, and make voice notes to myself using an app. called VNotes.
It's been a wonderful edition to my work-day armory of tools and has really improved my efficiency.

For me, productivity WAS and IS the key. It's really more than a phone - but I know I'm preaching to the choir here - it's a tool which makes my work so much easier.

Good to hear that. I think it's a huge productivity tool, despite its shortcomings - and will be many time stronger in this area once we get the 2.0 firmware and Exchange support, and lots more apps ...

By the way - I use my real name, John, and all I ever got was a hate thread stating 'I hate you John Banks!!!!'

coasts, you do realize there is not such a term "just unlocked" when referring to the iPhone...
you need to jailbreak it first..

To be honest, I've been somewhat confused by those terms.
I would assume that my iPhone is unlocked because I'm running it on T-Mobile, furthermore . . the party from whom it was purchased cited it as "unlocked." So, what exactly does the term "jailbroken" mean in the iPhone world?

Yup, running on T-Mobile (in the US) is Unlocked. Accepted definitions of the two loosely are along the lines of:
Jailbroken: means access to the full file system of the iPhone has been obtained, in order to allow installation of non-Apple-approved 3rd party apps - which in turn allows also ...
Unlocking: opening the iPhone up to run on non-approved carriers
