View Full Version : Ziphone a good Jailbreak?

I have had an iPhone since last summer and have just discovered Ziphone. I was always weary of Jailbreaking my iPhone, especially after my first iPhone had a fatal error within 24 hours and had to be swapped out for a new one. Luckily I had not mesesd with anything I shouldn't have been and warranty covered it. So, I am still a little weary about this, but I want to put apps on my iPhone already! Plus, Cnet recommended Ziphone.
I do have a few questions(reason I posted)
1. How safe is Ziphone?
2. How will updates from Apple work?
3. Where do I find Apps after jailbreaking with Ziphone.

*unrelated topic: I have tried a few DVD ripping programs so that I can put my movies on my iPhone without being ripped off and buying the same movie on iTunes. However, each time I have tried this the audio will eventually be out of sync with the video. Any ideas why? I have a PC so what is some good software that will do this well? Any suggestions will be great.

Thanks for reading my post.
~Chris

With the ZiPhone zibri said that not one phone has been bricked by using it. 2. you will probably have to restore it before the next update just to be safe 3. You will find the apps in the installer app. that is what jailbreaking does, add that icon. I jailbroke my phone with ziphone 4 days ago and it was very easy and quick. good luck

Chris, I was scared to JB my iphone and after having it since last May I figured why not.
If you think your phone is good wait until you JB it.
Many topics related to what you asked, search the forums.

I used ZiPhone on mine and have to say its Z best.

Really dont worry though cause it is so simple now. the first time i jailbroke my phone on 1.1.1 it took around two hours now on 1.1.4 it took 20 mins to restore and 2 mins to jailbreak

It's safe. I have jailbroken many iPhones with it and have yet come across an issue that a quick restore with iTunes couldn't handle.

1, Backup contacts and calender to Outlook.
2, Restore with iTunes to "New" phone.
3, Stop it from syncing when done restoring.
4, ZiPhone: select "Jailbreak". "Jailbreak & Activate" could not connect to YouTube for me. Just select the "Jailbreak" option.
6, Sync back to iTunes (Contact & Calender) if you want now.
5, Hard part is done, start exploring Installer and sources available.
6, Enjoy!

It is important to keep in mind though, some people experience some issues (youtube not working). Like Maverick said, if you ever have a serious problem where lets say a pixel on the screen isn't working, you can restore your phone to factory settings and still bring it back into apple to get it switched with ease. As far as the little errors some people have experienced...there are threads on the forum explaining what to do, but they essentially deal with a "fix" you can download easily from within installer. There is nothing to be concerned about, enough people have done it that every concern or problem has been addressed

taskbar notifier is a good simple app that is very usefull. It makes a lil icon in the upper right hand corner of your phone beside your battey that tells you if you hace a new mail, new text or a missed call.

Summerboard and Customize for sure...........:2cool:

Customize 2.0 just springs back (Crashes?) to home screen when I try to open it. It worked perfect with 1.1.1. I can't get it to work with 1.1.4 :(

Yeah I've read multiple threads on Customize locking up and crashing the iPhone...I'm staying away from it until they've got a steady fix.

Just use the old version for now, it works perfectly. You will need to get the modded version of customize if you're on 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 and you can get that by adding this source in installer http://ipodtouched.net/repo.xml (http://ipodtouched.net/repo.xml)

iliberty is tested as much safer. Also consider that zibri steals and is disrespected within the dev community.

Or just use pwnage.

yep, thats the idea. if you have a problem, restore the phone and your good to go on taking the phone in. I always set the phone up as new though after you've restored. thats complete factory settings. Just remember to back your contacts up

If you use Ziphone to jailbreak only, yes. If you unlocked with Ziphone, NO.
If you unlocked with Ziphone, it downgrades your bootloader. There's no way to get it back. If Apple looks into software, they will see this, and know you have tampered with it.:frown:

I did it. Now I have a jailbroken phone with Ziphone! I do love it. I wish I had done it sooner, but after hearing Cnet endorse Ziphone and the positive comments on this and other sites, I was sold.

I have put summerboard, several games, categories, iAmp, and an NES emulator on the phone. SO far I am liking these. I skipped out on Categories after reading about several problems it can create.

I do have an NES rom question. I have the emulator, but I am not sure how to get my roms onto the phone. I see where I need to access the /var/mobile/Media/ROMs/NES directory, but how do I get there? When I plug in my phone my computer recognizes it as a camera.

Add this source ---------- http://123locker.com
Then under games, install NES ROMs.
It puts about 20 games in the emulator........DONE

How do I add the source? I do not see it under the source folder.

I just counted, it puts 70 NES games on your phone......
Have fun.........:2cool:

Wow, this is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Without the tactile feedback of an actual controller or keyboard it makes it rather difficult for games that require fast reflexes. Still...very fun! Especially super dodge ball!

Yeah, it's not awesome, but it's pretty cool.
