I have a 1.1.2 iPhone and there are some applications that i want to add but this message always pops up: this package comes from an untrusted source it may be unsafe to install. and it gives me four options, install, add to queue, clear queue, and cancel. i was just wondering whether its safe to download or not. Thanks in advance.

Sources and how 'trusted' they are is all a bit relative right now on the iPhone. The message you're seeing just means the source in question is not part of Community Sources, which has been the standard set of approved sources since Installer launched (though some new ones have been added).

By now, the vast majority of sources out there for iPhone apps are 'untrusted' in this sense. Best advice on sources I think is to use your own good judgement, and help it along by thinking about things like:
-- Have you installed other apps from this source, and have they been OK?
-- Have you read reports / reviews on apps from his source (via these forums or elsewhere) that indicate success with apps from this source?
-- Have you seen any negative reports?

As far as I know, there have been very, very few sources that have any malicious intent - so the worst you should get is an unstable or flaky app, or a source that slows down the overall refresh of sources ...

Had that problem. Download list is jammed by one of the items.
Fix:
1. Select an app to download. When you select "Install" button at top right, I'll guess that a screen comes up giving options like "Install", "Remove from list", "Clear Download List", or "Cancel" or maybe some variation of those (sorry but I don't remember the exact text). But you'll see an option to clear the download list.
2. Select to clear the download list.
3. Press Home button to back to Home screen and Relaunch Installer.
4. Select the app again to install. Now that list (the one you get after pressing Install in top right) should not have the option to clear the download list... because it will have been cleared.
5. Select to Install. Should be ok.
If the download still doesn't proceed and gives that some old message you've been getting then go through the same process again, but this time reboot the iPhone completely (holding down power button until red slider appears etc) after clearing the download list instead of just relaunching Installer.
I had to do this several times but eventually it downloaded fine. Fixed as far as I can tell.
Good luck!
