why? because i'm bored.
EDIT:
For Mac users:
1) hit cmd+shift+3 (or you can use an app that i really like called Skitch)
2) open the image that pops up on your desktop in Preview, and use "adjust size" in Tools to shrink to an acceptable size.
3) upload to a photo sharing site like photobucket or flickr.
4) copy the direct link to the image
5) click on this button vvv, and paste the link.
http://img.skitch.com/20080602-tibnsruqf2carm71tpjxpfxd5i.jpg
For PC users:
1) find a "Printscreen" button on your keyboard (could also be "Prtscr" or some other variation). It should be near the top-right near "delete". Press it. Nothing will happen.
2) Open up Paint, Photoshop, GIMP, or any other image editing program, and paste (edit->paste, right click->paste, or ctrl+v). your desktop image should appear in the program. Resize to an acceptable size, and save as a .jpg.
3) upload to a photo sharing site like photobucket or flickr.
4) copy the direct link to the image
5) click on the button highlighted above, and paste the link.

Yeah - I feel almost guilty for not making mine look better - but I'm big on using Spaces and running an app or two in each space either taking up full screen (if one app) or half and half if two, so I hardly ever see it.
There ya go, my best excuse so far. Also the sun was in me eyes when I tried to pretty it up ...

just hit that button, then go into Paint, Photoshop, GIMP or whatever image editing software you may have, and hit Ctrl+v to paste the screen capture. then resize it to taste, save as a jpeg, and post it here.

yeah, that's only for Windows computers.
On a mac, you can hit cmd+shift+3, and it'll put a picture on your desktop, which you can use preview to adjust its size (under tools). But i recommend using an app called Skitch (http://skitch.com/), that makes sharing screenshots easy as heck.

if you use the "Go Advanced" posting option on EIC, you can attach an image. Or, if you have a Photobucket, Flickr, or other online image-hosting account (they're all free), you can upload it there, copy the link, go back to EIC, hit the little sunset-looking icon at the top of the text field, and paste the link. If you go this route, definitely use Skitch. It makes the process VERY easy. It only takes a few clicks.
kinda sounds complicated, but it isn't too bad once you do it once or twice.

I did some research on Skitch (basically just watched the 3 minute video) and it seems that the Tag for forum posts is always going to be a thumbnail that you have to click on to make larger. I'm not quite sure if there is a way of getting around that.
As for the screenshot, I just use the Command+Shift+3 to take it. Then I just upload the photo to Photo Bucket without resizing or anything.

Very nice desktop pic. Do you cycle through thousands of pics like I do, or stick to one you like? But can you imagine how much better it would be if you had a movie of you car zipping through the road as your desktop movie, instead of a static picture?
First you have to turn the movie you want to use into a screensaver. That's easy. I used "iScreensaver" to do that. It takes a few minutes. Once the screensaver is made and installed, you make sure you select it as your active screensaver in the system preferences.
Now open the terminal and write : /system/Library/Frameworks/Screensaver.framework/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/macOs/ScreenSaverEngine -background &
then enter.
The desktop movie should now be on.
Don't close the terminal yet. It will give you a number for the process you just did like 4235. You can minimize the terminal to get it out of the way, but when you want to stop the desktop movie, maximize the terminal and write: kill 4235 and enter. It will stop at once. If you quit the terminal and forget the number, you're stuck with the movie till you restart.
and yes, there are webcams: Old faithful, Glacier National Park, Apgar Mountain and Mt St Helens.

06-03-2008, 01:14 AM
Thanks Jackie!
I got it up and running. When I quite terminal it also shuts down the screensaver. I think that has to do with the terminal shell settings. I have them set to warn me about running processes before closing.
Also, that path is a pain to type each time. You probably know this Jackie but for anyone else who's curious, you can type history in terminal, find the number next to the path and if the number is, say 500, type !500 to repeat the command. Makes it a lot easier.
Cool stuff :2cool:

True. What I do is just leave the text in a textedit format right on the desktop, then copy and paste in the terminal. Takes 3 seconds. No brain action is required for the weary.

Hi geordisjd, I don't get it--if you've converted the movie to screensaver and set it as your active screensaver in system preferences, why do you have to use Terminal to get it going?

Exactly, the screensaver runs BEHIND all the icons and the dock, and you work on TOP of it running in the background.

Because there's no other way. It's not "a type of screensaver". It's a screensaver that's used for a completely different purpose. Since it's not written in Mac OS X, you have to access the Unix commands that make it run. Another option is to find an app that does that for you. I'm sure there must be some.

For the record, the baby is mine. Sophia. I took the photo with a Nikon D40 and placed a BW matte over it and removed the matte over her eyes..

very cool pic. I also share your hatred for icons... if you really want to hide your recycle bin, i know of a script you can run that will give you an option in "view" under "folder options" that will allow you to turn it on or off.

It's actually Venice this time around. One of the coolest and most cultured cities in Europe. Sadly the entire city is expected to be covered by water within 50 years. The big tower is the Campanile, built in 1912 to replace the identical one that collapsed in 1902. To the right in the picture is the Bridge of Sighs built between 1600 and 1603. So much awesome history.

Nice pic binks! When were you in Venice?
That particular pic was when I went to Venice in August but I went more recently in March and it was a much different experience. At the time of the pic it was about 95 degrees outside and miserable but in March it was a nice 60 or so. The people also seemed a lot nicer and placid in March.
I don't know if anyone else saw this in the news, but they're trying to ban the feeding of pigeons in St. Mark's Square. They say that the pigeon poo is ruining the façades of the buildings and are trying to make it illegal to sell the food to feed them. It's rather unfortunate because the pigeons really are a part of Venice.

That would be neat but that would require a whole lot of special processing and hardware that wouldn't be worth the effort. I'm lucky I could color match the wall as well as I did :)
BTW, the original picture of the wall was taken with my iPhone and Photoshopped a bit.

If you don't already know, I'm really anal about design.
The dock, application icons, and drive icons, which all came from various places or were created by me in Pixelmator (cheap Photoshop alternatve) were done with CandyBar from Panic. (http://www.panic.com/candybar/) The scrollbars, Safari progress bar, and traffic lights buttons were done with a theme called iLeopard (http://www.ileopard2.co.cc/). The system fond was changed the an Unsanity haxie called Silk (http://unsanity.com/haxies/silk). The wallpapers were downloaded form MacThemes, and this little thing:

The Album Cover and Track/Album/Artist name are from an awesome app called CoverSutra (v). It costs, but it's well worth the money.
And actually, I'm a lot OCD about the appearance of my Mac. I can't stand the default appearance. Most of it's either work from other people, or modifications by me, but I'm learning (slowly) the bells and whistles of Photoshop and I've created a few things that are pretty nice.

Note that this dock is an iContainer - it can only be used with CandyBar (http://www.panic.com/candybar/).

I mentioned CandyBar. Basically, if you're going to get into customization, you need CandyBar. It is the easiest, most efficient, and safest way to change your dock, application icons, system icons, etc. There is a demo available from Panic. Give it a whirl.

You should be able to use Alt+ Prnt Screen which should be located on the upper right of your keyboard.
Then go into Paint and paste the image in, save it, then upload it, then share it. Just a few steps.

Very nice Honda! I do something similar. Do you have it set to where, say, iCal always opens up in Space 2? I love that feature, so when I just turn on my computer I can start the application and it automatically goes to Space 2 instead of just dragging it in there everytime.
EDIT::: Suppose to be upload not Honda.
