There are several people - like me - that would love to have a repo but don't have a website to host it with. This website (http://www.myrepospace.com/), MyRepoSpace, is offering free space for people to host packages for Installer. From looking around, what I gather is that everything you upload is put into a repository containing your packages only - it isn't public. So your repo URL would be something like http://myrepospace.com/user?i=.... You could then advertise it to people on sites like EIC. Pretty neat idea. Registration is currently closed, but will be open again once they've completed everything with the site.

I pay 3.99 a month for a linux package on godaddy. It includes 50 gigs of storage and 30 gigs of monthly bandwidth.

I honestly don't think theres a better deal than this on the net, it's just the price of a cup of coffee.

Nothing is free, theres some transparent way this free hosting company is monetizing the traffic sent to them, and something tells me thats whenever you hit the "more info" button. Much like STE is doing now, you'll see a donation page first, then another link saying "visit the author's more info page" somewhere underneath.

Another thing to investigate is ownership, more specifically, if your host claims ownership on what you upload as part of the agreement for free hosting.

These are basically the motivating factors for me to just foot the bill myself on hosting my own repo. It cost roughly 12 dollars to set up, which included them buying the domain for me. I believe they own it if I decide to cancel my account, which is fine by me. Otherwise I can claim ownership with iCANN and pay 75 bux or so to purchase it.

Hey x999x!

Nope, none of that crap on our website.

Its currently ad free and the only thing we hope to cover is our server costs, and if required the cost to upgrade to a dedicated host service. (if we get a lot of interest).

Oh and: if you'd like to join. icafe members are more then welcomed to

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you are the owner of the site?

Correct. I need some more beta users to help me test server load.
So everyone from iCafe are welcomed to register.
