So, I was doing some work with my MacBook Pro out on the deck yesterday. The deck is rather high, above our backyard which has a set of cement steps below where I was sitting. I got up to get a drink and got up in a bad way and tripped over the chair. I fell on my face, the chair flew up in the air, hit the MacBook, which fell, and eventually, hit the cement below with a very unpleasant sound. I couldn't bear to look, and when I did I saw what I had expected. My MacBook was laying on the ground five or six pieces.

Fortunately, I had 90% of the data on there backed up. However, I did lose Photoshop and the project I had been working on for school before I fell. Now I only have the Mac Mini and only the iPhone to take to New York. At least it's an excuse to get a new one.

I feel the pain, really! Sorry...
Hope you can afford a new one, because a life without MacBook Pro, after having known it, is no life at all.
Have you joined the iRovr stream? You could share you adventures on realtime .

Darn, I didn't think of that! I bagged it up yesterday and the trash came this morning. :frown: I'll go look in the backyard and see if I can find any shards I missed.

Originally just I was going to pick up something for my dad, but that was taken care of a few days ago. I decided that I would just go anyway and take some friends along with me. I'll defiantly visit the Apple Store, but I'll probably get the new Mac back here. We'll see, though.

And as much as I love the power of the Pro, I'm also a design freak.. I might just have to go with the black MacBook.

I'm already on Apple's site sorting out what to get. As of right now, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with the black MacBook with 4 gigs of memory, FinalCut Express and Logic Express installed, which rounds out to $2,297.00. Not bad for a Mac. Plus it'll come with iLife '08, which I've been wanting to get for some time.

Your folks are probably not real happy about this, eh? Or do they love computers as much as you?

4GB of memory is a must I think. That was my first upgrade on the MacBook - and it has made a huge difference ...

patrick, did you do it yourself or order it with 4gb? If not where did you buy the extra memory at? I'm at 2gb but I'm looking at upgrading to 4

Bought memory separate as an upgrade. 4GB plus 2-day shipping was just under $100. Bought via these guys:

Deal is even better now (by a few dollars) than when I ordered :)

Dang, really sorry to hear about that John. I've been afraid I'm going to do something like that with the Air. Thankfully I got an external warranty that covers damage and drops and spills for 3 years. If I didn't get the Air I would have gone with the black MacBook, they're so sick looking.

Don't forget to put pics in the MacBook section. I don't think we've seen any black ones there...

It was bought with my money, as will the next one be. Plus they know I'm a geek.

@ geordisjd - Definitely. I wasn't around when I got the MBP, so this I'll have to do.

And as for the memory discussions, here's a shocker. I jut checked the memory on the Mac Mini, and guess how much it has? 512 Megs. No wonder I preferred doing heavy work on the Pro.

Ah, I was under the impression you were still in school. When I was in school my folks paid for everything. Kudos to you! We'll be looking forward to seeing your new Mac when it arrives.

John in still in high school but he has a good job, from what I understand. He is a hard working guy. I was really surprised when I learned he is only 20 since he is so mature.

It sounds like I am a mom talking about my kid when they are in the room... lol!

Yep, Senior in High School. I started school late. I work for a media editing company, but I've had stocks since age 5, and my parents taught me just about everything there is to know about managing money around 10.

Impressive...and rare in this age of consumerism.

john, PLEASE don't get memory upgrades from apple. get it stock with as little as you can, and upgrade it from newegg or somewhere like that. it will save you a TON of money... i've seen 4GB sets for ~$100 (vs $400 to upgrade from 2 to 4GB directly from apple).

anyway, sorry about the ol' MBP... stories like that are why i got accidental coverage on mine.
