Is video ringtones possible?

from a dev's perspective. Are video ringtones possible on the iPhone?

Not with the official SDK. You would basically have to change the way in which the phone receives calls. Now if you could reverse engineer the receiving phone part it's probably possible, but that could take some work.

are you suggesting a video play as opposed to a picture ID and a ringtone?

yes I mean I think its a matter of time before someone makes it possible. (I think it is somewhere) but it would be kinda cool to see a clip of your friend that might make ya laugh. Of course its by no means neccesary, just thought with all the phone can do and from what you dev have done so far that it might be possible.

depending on WHO it was calling i think that could be neat. just have to worry about battery life if you are playing a video every time someone calls.

That actually sounds like a great idea. If you have one of those people call you that you don't want to talk to you; you can just watch the video. (cause sometimes you don't want to send them straight to voice mail cause they can tell when you do that.)
