I also got the wireless Mighty Mouse but I'm not fond of how it works just yet, but I love the trackpad! Gestures are nice.

You've got one helluva machine to get you out of the gate.:laugh2: Congratulations on making the leap. Install VMWare Fusion if there any apps from your Windows days that aren't available on the Mac.

Enjoy!

and don't you just love apple's packaging? it's a small thing, but I think it really gives you the feeling you've got a quality product.

Have you ever noticed the looks you get when you walk out of the Apple store with a new computer?
The packaging is so eye catching that it draws the attention of everyone. I still have the box my MBP came in. Apple was having a deal on printers when I got mine and it about killed me to cut the UPC from the box.:laugh2: And of course I still have the iphone box.

... Install VMWare Fusion if there any apps from your Windows days that aren't available on the MacInteresting you said that, I looked at reviews of Parallels and Fusion, and Fusion seemed to come out on top. In my SW development days i was friends with the Smith Micro guys so their product make sense to me. I'll get it installed soon, gotta find a Vista key among the several I have to install a fresh full version, not an upgrade. I still have to run a quad core Vista system for my Apache server and weather station, but I'm moving all my personal stuff the the MBP.

Have you ever noticed the looks you get when you walk out of the Apple store ...STORE??? There isn't an Apple store within 4 hours of here. I would have to drive over the Rocky Mountains to the front range Denver area to get one from a store. Bought online with the educational discount.

I got my macbook at the san francisco store, and took bart home. I was so scared that someone was going to try to snatch and run! That was one intense ride home....

Don't really have that luxury up in northern MD. Closest Apple store is 30 miles south of me in Bethesda. 30 miles may not seem like much until you factor the traffic and having to shlep 3 cat-scratching girls.

Made me big supporter of shipping.

I was born and raised in NE Baltimore so I know it isn't that tough getting around Eragon. LOL. 30 miles? We drive that for an impromptu dinner date. phtttt. You easterners are spoiled.

Tip: goto the mouse settings in system prefs. You can setup your trackpad to right click by tapping two fingers, and also you can scroll with two fingers.

Tip: command + spacebar opens up the spotlight. I use that a LOT to find apps and such. I always do cmd + space then type sys and hit enter to get to system preferences.

Thanks Ramesh, i already found everything you said except the command+spacebar for spotlight, that will be really handy.

Yep, that's my favorite shortcut. I don't particularly like having to navigate to find an application. I do like being able to find it within seconds though.

It helps some who are less apt to technology. But in most cases, I'd say no classes necessary.

I might go to a few just for fun, but if you poke around enough you can easily learn your way around. There are even keyboard shortcuts listed in Sys.Pref. under keyboard and mouse.

That is so beautiful!!

Btw- do you guys think that a MBP would be a great computer to attend college with?
-As some of guys probably already know, when your out of the house your kinda poor even if you've been saving money since your first job, so im gonna need a computer that will stay current/ and as up-to-date with technology for atleast 3-4 years.

The MBP is a bit big to be carrying around campus. Also it probably has more features than you need for school. I would just think about the macbook. It is smaller and a bit lighter and should be all you need.

+1 ..plus if you're on a budget the MacBook just makes more sense.

that's definitely something to think about. My opinion is that 15" is not much bigger than 13" where portability is an issue... and there's something to be said for an aluminum case. Plus, if he plans to do any gaming (sounds lie it's gonna be his only computer), the Nvidia graphics card in the Pro will help immensely.

From the pictures/ and videos i've seen it didnt seem that big, but I guess that just what camera do to it- Kinda like when you notice difference of seeing an iPhone in a picture, and actually holding one in your hands.

My plan was to get a MBP for college, and seeing that it is so expensive I were hoping that the technology inside could last me for like 4-5 years, which would we be around the time I'd be finishing my double major in Finance/ and Accounting.
-Now that I think about it, usually when people post about owning a macbook pro they usually mention in some way of being an graphics engineer, or working on movies, music, anything media related, so I guess I would have wasted alot of money?

Thanks:smile:

Btw- what about a MacBook Air, that seems the perfect computer for a college student?

After owning both, I'd say this:

If this machine is going to be your primary machine, do NOT get the air. I loved it, but ended up with a MBP, due to hardware issues (dead pixels, random things). I was fine, because it was my second machine. If it was my primary, there's no way I could have lived with the peripherals gone.

IMO, you won't be wasting your money going with a MBP. For 2k, you're getting a machine that will last you through college. It SHOULD be able to handle most programs until you graduate. I know some people who are running power pc's still to this day. While in 4 years it won't be cutting edge, it will still be useful and hopefully used.

I just don't like how it feels. very un-ergonomic. the 360- degree scroll wheel is cool, but other than that it's just standard mouse.

I went on google to see what this "Might mouse" thing was and I like it :)

Its very Apple esque, and looks like a womens bar of soap hehe, but what i like most is that the scroll wheel is like a blackberries or Sidekicks directional "Track-ball"!

I want one!

Starry, Am I understanding that you already have Publisher and a lot of files in that format, if so, you can get VMWare Fusion and then install XP with it and run whatever Windows programs you need. Be aware that you will need a fully activatable XP in order to install it under VMWare since it is an actual Windows installation.

VMWare has a free download of the newest beta release and it is the one to get. Do it now. ;)
