Its been delayed to next week sometime....
#IPHONE-DEV, IRC, Cyberspace. March 30, 2008
The expected release of the Mac OS X version of “PwnageTool” has been delayed until sometime next week.
Legal enquiries were made to the DevTeam about the validity and legality of the contents of the tools, we would like to stress that no third-party copyrighted software will ever be released by the DevTeam.
Also, initial feedback from Beta testers has indicated that a few small changes and additional features should be developed.
Another major request from the Beta testers and demo viewers is that the team brings forward the release of the Windows version, with the feedback that has been received the team has decided to expedite the release of the Windows tool for a dual platform release sometime next week, iPod touch support will also be finalized.
The DevTeam would like to thank the users for being patient and wait for the upcoming release.
The video presentation that was released yesterday has been viewed over 100,000 times in 24 hours proving the overwhelming demand for the application.
To summarize :-
Pwnage Tool Application releases _sometime_ in the next week for Mac OS X 10.4.x, 10.5.x and Windows.
The tool contains revised logos and icons.
PwnageTool does NOT ship with any Apple licensed software, Intellectual Property, trademarks, logos or images.
As my Mother would say “If you are going to be late, arrive with flowers”.

I could see where they would have to be careful. From the articles I've read, they feel pretty confident that Apple won't be able to do anything about it either. The cat and mouse game continues.:D

Well not really. The iphone modifications forum is probably the best place for a post like this, but some people only read this forum. Indy is probably just trying to let everyone that only reads the iPhone Forum know that there is something new out.

I would, as I love getting my hands dirty with this kind of stuff, but I'm already doing it today. I relocated my applications earlier, and none of them would launch. So I repaired permissions and rebooted. The phone got half through booting and hung. I tried putting it into DFU mode and kicking it out through iNdependence without success. I then tried editing the com.apple.springboard.plist, but that made it worse. The boot screen only displayed connecting/disconnecting to the dock. I then had to enter DFU and Restore, and I'm the progress of jailbreaking again.
Not only did I loose the 213 photos I took at the beach, but I lost everything that was collected through jailbreaking.

Well that comes along with modding things. 213 photos lost? Don't you ever sync your photos? :D

LoL, indeed it is and I apologized, I had this happen to me in the "Future iphones" section just the other day. I posted up a topic and then someone post the same topic IN THE SAME SECTION shortly after. WTF!?
This isn't retaliation by any means but it happens and what can ya do? Just don't post in the new thread is all I would tell someone.
You all have a great day and John, again, that really sucks man, let's just hope most of your pictures were crappy anyways...:tounge:lol. kidding...

Apple firmware are in packages ending in ispw (think that's right). When you restore, you are restoring from this package and its defaults. Now you can truly backup your phone regardless of your settings. You'll be able to "restore" to a jailbroken phone with installer and your customized images and such.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I suppose everything worked out.. after going though iPhone hacking hell.
I eventually gave up trying to get my photos and (attempted to) restore. iTunes extracted the software, and gave me an unknown error. No number. Then the iPhone went berserk. The screen was flashing white lines while attempting to boot in the background. It also vibrated every 5 seconds or so. I tried for about 30 minutes to toss it into DFU or at least shut it down, without success.
After trying everything else, I tried SSH again. Weird, it worked. I rebooted it from the terminal and it booted - but it the iPod carrier logo without any icons. I plugged it back in, but iTunes wouldn't recognize it. So I downloaded iNdependence to put it into DFU. However, iNdependence did not believe it was jailbroken. So I remembered I had seen this before and there was some plist I had to edit, which I did, and then put it into DFU.
Then I restored again. Same error. I SSHed in. I deleted /var/Applications and BossTool, which was what caused the problem. Rebooted. iPod problem again. DFU. Restore, successful this time. Then I spent several hours re-doing everything I've done since Christmas.
What was amazing is that after all of that, every one of my photos was still in t he camera roll. How I have no idea. I had not synced nor backed up since I took them. Either way, I have them. But I did loose several audio files, ShowTime movies, text files created with TextEdit, etc.
