customize issues :/

how do I get costomize to work for 1.1.3? I've been having trouble with it because whenever I try to change the skin of something and then press ok it never works. I know youve posted alot of threads regarding customize but I couldn't find anything to help me so can someone please help?!

I just do a work around with ericas mim and clownfish batery slider.

install this customize vis ssh, it is straight off my phone that had customize running on 1.1.3 and now 1.1.4
give it a shot, may work, not 100% sure for you tho, but it did for me so what the hey, try it. thank me if it works ;)

if you downloaded the file then;

1. SSH into your iphone, directory root, pw: alpine , port: 22

2. you should see the directory come up and the very first folder should be applications.

3. locate the customize file you downloaded from me and drag it onto the applications folder and basically "drop" it in there, the file you downloaded from me is actually an application container, customize will install itself.

4. after dropping it into applications, open the folder and verify that there is now a customize folder within the applications one, if so move on to step 5, if not then repeat step 3.

5. disconnect from ssh and either respring your phone if you know how, or just turn it off then back on.

6. customize should be on your springboard, if so then move on to step 7, if
not then repeat steps 1-5, you made a boo boo, lol.

7. open customize, if it crashes to spring board then try to reload it, sometimes it take a few tries and a few seconds to get it up and running.

8. go to installer, download all the customize themes you want!

click the above link, then on the right side of the page, at the bottom of the column there will be a button labeled "free", click that then enter the text from the picture in the box, click download underneath that, your file will download, and then you will be able to follow my directions...

first, your are going to have to have these things installed on your phone, if you are missing anything in the list, get them! lol

1. BSD subsystem
2.OpenSSH

OpenSSH will allow you to ssh into your phone
if you are on a mac, get Fugu, if you are on a windoze box, get WinSCP, these are the computer side clients that will tunnel into your iphone.

once you get those let me know and ill put up the ssh guide while you download them

im stuck on 1. after i downloaded the file. i have the win scp running and the cutomize folder but i just dont think its connected to the iphone. i downloaded SSH as well but there is no icon for it on my iphone so i dont know if it worked properly... this is driving me crazy

there isnt going to be an icon for OpenSSH.
if you got to step one, then your good, the iphone isnt involved until step two.
your going to need your iphones ip address.

forgot to mention, on your iphone set the auto lock to never, plug your phone into the power source, you cant let it sleep during the process or you run the risk of disconnecting yourself.

click the folder with the up pointing arrow until you see a folder labeled "applications" i believe you may be @ private/var/mobile

Ok so i reached my final verdict. I did it 3 times just to make sure. It says that customize is under applications and i see the folder and everything but i cannot find customize on my iphone :/... any advice?

restart your phone, in order to see changes done via ssh you need to either respring or restart.

2. go into installer, under sources and add the source http://ipodtouched.net/repo.xml
3. go into your SSH client, I use Cyberduck on mac (WinSCP for windows users).
4. create a new connection with iPhone. Server will be your iPhone's ip address. found by going into wifi settings and clicking the arrow on your wifi connection which displays your connection properties. Enter "root" for the username. password will be alpine
5. once the connection is active go to /system/library/coreservices (make sure to touch your iphone screen while doing this to keep it active.)
6. drag the file "SystemVersion.plist" to your desktop. Where it says 1.1.4 at the bottom, change this to 1.1.3. Save and drag this back into the SSH window and replace the existing file (This will trick the apps into thinking you are still version 1.1.3 even though you are 1.1.4.)
7. go to installer>utilities>install customize 1.21
8. go back to installer, and uninstall the version of customize you just installed. what this is doing is creating a cusomize folder. The modified version you will install will not create its own folder.
9. go to installer>iPod Touched>install modded Customize

one thing i haven't found a solution to is I can't get the carrier logo to change. other than that, this seems to work pretty well. sounds like alot, but if you already have the ability to SSH into iPhone it really only takes about 5 minutes.

I know it is but it wasn't working for me either. The method i posted worked for me. Maybe the key is going into the systemversion.plist through ssh and changing from 1.1.4 to 1.1.3

that's the only thing that is missing from the steps you had posted and the only thing I can think of as to why the other guys weren't getting it working. Wasn't trying to step on your toes or anything :)

great! now everyone else can use your thread as a guide too hopefully. make sure you ssh into your phone every so often and make back ups of all your apps and such, makes restoring much more painless if you go too deep into customizing.
I just finished a restore->Jailbreak because a freakin' theme bricked my iphone......yes, a theme, from installer, applied via smbprefs BRICKED my iphone....ugh.:angry:
but kudos to getting customize running.

MIM is ok, but I like customized graphics as my carrier logo. From what I can tell MIM just does normal text. That's actually what I'm using right now, but I have a Texas A&M graphic I'd like to use and can't seem to figure out how to do it on 1.1.4

someone help me out.. i have bsd 2.0 installed on my 1.4 iphone through ziphone. i installed winscp and when i try and log in with all the correct information... it just freezes.. did this happen to anyone else??
