...i got a Time Capsule today!
I've had some troubles figuring out how to integrate it with my current network, but once i do... whoa man, will it be nice.

Yeah we have one and it's good, though depending on the size of your hard drive, the first backup could take up to three days!!! lol my dad's did :s

nice! i have been wanting one for some time now, and since my 5-year-old airport extreme base station seems to be on the fritz (it turns itself off if you tilt it forward), i now have an official excuse to get a replacement!
did you get the 500gb or 1tb one? i think it's going to be the 500gb one for me, unless i can quickly sell some other gadgets to raise funds for the 1tb...

i got the 500GB one.
i will say that i am slightly disappointed that it only has a 1-year warranty. It would be nice if (at the very least) the hard drive was warrantied for a little longer.
I should have my Time Capsule and AppleTV sometime next week. I just got 1200 for college but I already have everything paid off so that went towards my beloved technology.

yeah, i've read about that. That is why i'm not going to bother until i get the networking stuff straightened out.
i'm wondering this, though... since the wired ports are Gigabit, why not do this initial backup through them? that would speed up the process by a bunch.

We have the terabyte one which is already nearly full due to my dads MacBooks and macs (mine backs up to a USB drive)

What networking stuff do you need straightened out?

i've been screwing with it off and on all day... i posted a blurb on the apple forum, but no one seems to know... i guess i'll copy and paste it...
At my house, my only high-speed internet option is an Aircard of some sort (Sprint Sierra 595u, specifically), which (up until yesterday) i was sharing rather successfully in a wireless ad-hoc network consisting of my macbook pro, and 3 other windows machines. The computer with the modem is a Windows XP Home laptop.
Now, i realize the card cannot plug into the Time Capsule, and yes, i do know there are routers made specifically for this, but the Time Capsule would be great so i can have a backup device without hogging a USB port on my macbook.
at any rate, having done some research, it seems that the issue with using XP's Internet Sharing in addition to a separate router is that both are basically DNS servers (correct me please if i'm using incorrect terminology). I have read that i can do two things to bypass this problem: 1) disable DHCP on the Time Capsule, thereby making it an access point; or 2) put the "main" computer (with the modem on it) in a different subnet mask than the router and client computers.
I've been attempting option #2, but have had some troubles in the Airport Utility... one is that i cannot seem to find an option to set the Internet connection to a Static IP... also, when choosing a different subnet mask, what should i change it to? does it matter?
so, i realize this relies heavily on XP... sorry about that. any comments, recommendations, or words of wisdom would be most welcome.

i was gonna ask some of the guys at work what they recommend, so hopefully we'll figure something out.

To be honest, it's late for me, but I could probably help you with a little thought, if you haven't gotten it solved within the next few days. But my question in the meantime:
You seem to have a lot invested into your technology, why not get traditional high speed (cable, dsl, etc...)?

i wish. In my area, it's either an Aircard, satellite, or dialup. And through best buy, i get a great deal on Sprint's service.

in my specific area of St Louis. I'd say a few miles in either direction DSL and Cable are available... but not here.
