1000 posts.... so much pressure... Ah crap it feels like a high school paper, this whole “reveal” business. So let’s keep it short and sweet, eh? If it seems too slim on content, just triple space it and use a large font.
So my name is Dave. I was born Nov. 8 ’77 in York, PA… was raised there all my life in a great family. I have 3 older sisters (7, 9, 10 years older) so I guess I’m the brat. I started piano lessons at age 4 and got the music bug quickly. Always a geek, I was that guy that did the crazy science fair projects (robot that followed a black line in 7th grade, and a voice recognition board/software in 8th… just to give a hint at how cool I was to all my peers). Somehow through all that dweebage, I attracted a hot little blond-haired blue-eyed cutie in 7th grade and stuck with her to this day (that would be my wife, Jen). We’ve been married 8 years, and have been together over 19 years now. We survived college apart… She went to college near home, I went to Berklee College of Music in Boston, studying Music Production and Engineering, minoring in Music Synthesis. I worked at a small narration studio up there for a year or so after graduating (graduated early… was waiting for Jen to finish) then moved back home. Jen and I moved to Philadelphia and she started work as a mental health therapist. I got a job at a pretty famous studio (Sigma Sound) in its dying days. Got to work with some relatively big names there… Bela Fleck, Taylor Swift (cut her 4-song demo), DMX, “Jersey Girl” cast/Kevin Smith, David Byrne, John Legend (again, before he got big)… I got steady work there for over 3 years before the doors closed. Then I went to work at “The Studio” (that’s the name) for a short run. More big names there (mostly The Roots, as that is their home base), but the vibe wasn’t really me. So I cast my net out again, and got picked up at Morningstar Studios… they’ve been around for over 28 years, and they keep me in steady work, so I hope I’m there for the rest of my career. It’s been over 4 years now, and I’m building a nice roster of happy return clients, and basically just loving life. Not so many big names, but good, down-to-earth, local musicians. I’m producing albums and contributing a lot to the work I do.
And the GEAR…. My god, my boss is a gearwhore to the Nth degree. Love it!
I also write music and love to share it, so I’ll get a link up soon with some tuneage.
So that’s basically where I’m at. There is more to me, of course, but I wouldn’t presume to go into it all without prompting. So… nice to meet you all! See ya in the next few 1000 posts or so…

Here's one of my compositions. I wrote it shortly after moving to Philadelphia.
It's called Philly Ambient (http://www.youshare.com/view.php?file=PhillyAmbient.mp3)
Enjoy...

there's Scratch Demo 3 (http://www.youshare.com/view.php?file=ScratchDemo3.mp3)

Awesomeness:
"Always a geek" ... I knew I liked you; I have a soft spot for geeks.
"We’ve been married 6.5 years, and have been together over 17 years now."
...A man who knows what he wants and has what it takes to make it last.
"It’s been over 4 years now, and I’m building a nice roster of happy return clients, and basically just loving life." A man who loves what he does, and does it well.
You are a quality guy. :2cool:

Nobody says "geek" anymore. they say "nerd".

no there is a big difference between geeks and nerds. Geeks are more socially accepted than nerds. Geeks typically like things like scifi and computers and comic books etc. Nerds like Math and chemistry. I used to be a nerd. Then I became a little more adventurous in the social realm and now I'm pretty popular in all my social circles. Thinking of going into politics no less. lol. But yeah. sorry. maybe you can become a Depthgeek after 2000 posts. lol

What a great story. We should all have such a nice life. The marriage thing really struck me. I have been married 33 years myself, but to be apart like that at a young age is special. I would say you are going to make it.
Thanks for sharing!!!

do you hit many other festivals? i used to do Suwanee - spring and fall - in Live Oak, FL...about eight years in a row. Lyons Bluegrass Fest in CO once or twice...Langerado. most of the big Phish festivals, although not the two last ones.

Got to work with some relatively big names there… Bela Fleck...
Excellent! The Juilliard-trained banjo picker. What did you record with him? This might have been around Cosmic Hippo time. Was he solo or with the Flecktones? I'm a bassist (among other things) and Victor Wooten is my personal lord and savior. :2cool:

dude, i just listened to your tracks, and i LOVE them. I've been really trying to get into electronic stuff like your Scratch demo. Are you familiar with Jeff Beck's latest album? Also stuff like Particle, Jamiroquai, John Scofield's Uberjam... things like that.
anyway, i'm sure a degree at Berklee has a lot to do with it, but if you ever have time to share a few pointers, or at least some recommendations on where to start, i'd be eternally grateful.

I think I drove through York PA on my way to Nazareth when I visited the Martin Guitar factory. I'm not sure though because it was a pretty long drive from Georgia. Either way, I'm impressed with your music background and Berklee College...Man!

In hindsight, this should have probably been put in the off-topic section seeing as it was hardly an "intro," even at the time.

Nice Reveal Bro!
-Now we all know to do reveals in the "introductions" thread

-Cause I noticed hes banned, but judging by his thanks/thanked count he seemed helpful around here? . . .

No, Rammy's just looking out for your best interests. Depthnerd was someone who was at times very helpful, however his intentions were not always good, and as you can see he had to be banned. That's all.
You will often see his name brought up in reference to high post count/frequency.

me. Kidding??? Would I do that?? Actually PDS you have the right idea but you are applying it wrong. The trick to the alligator method is that the symbol is an alligator's mouth, and being that he's a super hungry alligator, he will always try to eat the larger or superior number. Thus 3<4. See?

DAMN YOU MRS. SCHNEIDER HAHA!
-That was my math teacher from 4th-6th grade lol!
But she will proud to hear that I'm going to pre-calculus next year so... :)
-Btw not to re-hijack this thread but who here have taken (pre)calculus? How was it?
Hayesimus
06-25-2008, 06:57 AM
it was way easier than algebra. Question, how'd you do in geometry?
projectdarkside
06-25-2008, 08:08 AM
Well I dont know if its like this everywhere in our country, but in Kentucky we dont start geometry "usually" until our junior year, then you can choose to go on to Algebra II if you'd like. You can take geometry you sophomore year but then when you get to the upper History classes- That are semester split- you could end-up forgetting things because that geometry class would have taken its place. I'll try to find my old transcript so that I can explain it better :)
-I did great in Algebra, and should do the same in Geometry. . .I guess lol! I have the motivation to wanna be proficient in math so I dont think I'll too much if any a problem.
Hayesimus
06-25-2008, 08:41 AM
Uh okay... not sure I follow, but anyway, Geometry is more about shapes and pictures and things like that. Finding how much space is inside a square, how long the side of a triangle is based on the other two sides. etc. Well, my precalculus class also covered trig. not sure if they all do that, but this made the class very much like geometry to me. I did AWFUL in Algebra. Like barely passed. It was mostly because I never did the homework, but then in geometry i did Phenomenal. I had an A first semester and second semester the only thing that I scored less than a 100% on was a test where I missed 1 problem. I did okay in Algebra II. Not nearly as bad as Algebra but not nearly as great as in Geometry, and then PreCal/Trig I did very well in. I've been told by many that if you do good at algebra then geometry is probably not your thing and if you do bad at algebra then you will probably do better in geometry. So... yeah. maybe you'll do good. Just depends... :p I know that all this was vital and now you feel more complete having read that....
