Agreed.
And let's all try to educate our friends and family about how superior the iPhone is to all these phones so they don't approach us every week and say that our phones are crap and the *insert phone name here* is gonna be the iPhone killer.

Well it seems like it has a lot of cool features, but looks wise it is hideous compared to the iphone (plus Im assuming that multimedia-wise it is not even comparable). I would rather just have a navigation system and an iphone.

so dramatic. It sounds like a serial killer who goes around and destroys everyones iPhone. The true iPhone killer will be the next iPhone! D

well it certainly looks better than that piece of crap verizon was calling an iPhone killer... It won't be long and the gap will close between the iPhone and its competitors...
But RIGHT NOW we got the real deal!

I'm sure the GPS will be top notch, but I'm not so sure about the media features.

I like the looks and the thought of replacing my cell and Nuvi with one device. But I think that Apple is the only company using capacitive touch screens. The iPhone has made me hate resistive touch screens like the one my Nuvi has.
So they want me to scrap my indash navigation system in hopes of adopting that ugly iPhone wana be. I'm positive the platform for that thing is prolly just a Poor atempt at " jumping on the band wagon"
I'm selling my iPhone tomorrow to buy one of those :p
Seriously, this iPhone Killer business will never end as long as Apple is making the iPhone.

Finally! An honest and realistic answer in this thread. The notion that no one can build a phone equal to the iPhone is ludicrous. Maybe the Garmin isn't the one, but it will eventually happen.

There's a lot of talk about it? I've now heard about this only twice; once now and once a few weeks ago at MMI.
Now is a pretty bad time for people to be claiming to be making iPhone Killers - now that there's an SDK and developers and we'll have an App Store in June. Not sure that I feel this strong, but here's how the ShowTime developer feels...
News 6/3/08: Today's announcements from Apple are truly industry revolutionising. This is the biggest announcement in the computer industry since Apple introduced the Macintosh to the world in 1984.
The platform, and tools announced by Apple today are light years ahead of any other mobile platform. If there were any doubts that the iPhone will become the dominant mobile platform of the future, today's announcements have absolutely squashed them. Apple has just changed the face of the mobile industry forever, and indirectly this announcement will change the face of desktop computing forever.
In the space of an hour announcement, Apple has destroyed most of the big mobile players, Nokia, Microsoft, and RIM. I'd expect Google to abandon Android development at this point, it's now just irrelevant (if it weren't already).
This is the second coming of the JesusPhone.
To celebrate this event we’ve designed some T-Shirts. Everyone who has donated, and who donates up until the big release day will go into the draw to win one. For those who prefer not to take their chances, we’ll also be offering them for sale starting in the next few days, so keep and eye out.

i agree with that, but (like someone else has said) my bets are on apple for building a phone better than the iphone.
It took Apple 5 years of research to develop the iPhone, and this is just their first shot. My money's on Apple blowing everyone else out of the water by the time they revise it with 3G.

I totally agree with you, but this IS Garmins first shot at a phone also. So that day MIGHT not be TOO far away. I'm not saying "iPhone killer", but iPhone competition maybe.

it looks cheap
I agree, however, I have used Garmin products for my hiking GPS. Those things are more durable than anything. Their interface has also been compared to the simplicity of Apple as well.
I don't think it will come close to killing the iPhone, although, if there were no iPhone I'd go with Garmin, great customer service as well.
BTW Garmin need to get with the Apple game as far as compatibility...
