yay about time we hear something. Mms better be one of the first things we get. And then flash. And then video. And then copy paste. If I get those four things I'll be happy and not want anything else from this phone.

uh huh. And think how pissed everyone will be when the SDK is the producer, and not Apple.... That means we'll have to PAY. People will be mad.
I'm pleased they're making a point to separate "enterprise features" from "SDK", means there's a chance the SDK will be accessible by everybody rather than just Apple's friends.
If I get a hand on the SDK (as long as it doesn't require a Mac to code on, since I don't have one), I will be so happy.
IF it had to be delayed i think this is suitable...march 6th isn't too bad.
And what do "new enterprise features" mean? Is that possibly flash and stuff?

Hopefully, one of the enterprise features will be some real Exchange support ...

Finally the ability for dev teams to come up with something more official the the homebrewed or the jailbroken. Not to knock those who have managed to program for the iphone thus far. I could wax on poetically about the wants and needs of the public. How mms would be a step that should of been taken at launch. No. No Ladies and gentlemen i want to be selfish i want to speak directly to the major tech companies and say. I WANT GAMES!!!!!!!! I want Ea, Square Enix, and every other 3rd party akin to nintendo, xbox and the Ps3. I want the iphone to be treated like a hyped up ds/psp hybrid. I spent a crap load on this thing now Dance monkey Dance. That is all. lol

Anyone care to speculate on the price of different apps that will be available? For an app like Summerboard or simila I'd be willing to pay like 10.00 at most. I'm sure there will be tons of apps to choose from.

Well I would compare them to the price of third party apps on the palm, which cost anything from $10-$30

Yeah, I was thinking in the $10-$20 range. I'm sure some of the really good ones could be $30 though.

Saw this artical. Nothing earthshaking but very interesting.
iLounge claims that "several sources familiar with Apple's iphone and iPod touch software development kit (SDK) plans", the March 6th event will include several potentially controversial limitations on development and publishing.
You can read the full artical here (http://www.iphonealley.com/news/more-sdk-details-apple-to-restrict-sdk-apps-launch-full-sdk-in-june). It basically says that Apple will have full control of all Apps and of course will be released thru itunes and will limit developers from utilizing external hardware that connects through the iPhone's dock port.

A report from Appleinsider.com indicates that Apple will "Administer" the third-party applications. The areticle goes on to say that the aps will be available through iTunes.
Apple Inc. will have the final say over which third-party iPhone and iPod touch applications are deemed suitable for release, according to a new report, which also confirms several other suspicions previously waged regarding the firm's upcoming software developers kit (SDK) and its associated policies.

Coming from a Treo I sure miss the ability to search over all the applications. I can't always remember where I filed things.

Interesting point - I wonder what Jobs uses for his company mail? A crackberry? A super iPhone? You think they have thier network opened up for IMAP? I doubt it. I am honestly curious about this...

Wait... did you hear this somewhere or are you simply conjecturing? Because of this has any validity, it's pretty big news.

Wanted to clarify my post - I wasn't taking his post as fact, but more of an interesting scenario. I highly doubt that would be the case (good bye blackberry for Apple's exec's)

Given that Apple is micromanaging this whole process, I can't help but feel us jailbroken owners really won't end up having much to get excited about....cept' games perhaps.
The significant features will be saved for V2 is my guess...(3G isn't near enough to move those units come midyear .

There are rumors out now that the SDK will be a beta release and full release in June. If that is true does that mean we will have to wait till June to get apps or will devs be able to make them with a beta SDK?

This is one of those 'nobody knows for sure' type questions until Apple tells us more this coming Thursday - but my guess and a lot of folks' guess is that even with just a beta release, developers will have plenty enough to go on in building apps. Look at how much has already been done with zero help from Apple ...
I'm excited!!! Especially if I can continue to have the best of both worlds.

Maybe we will get beta apps.
I'd feel better with the beta SDK than I'd feel with jailbreaking - at least the beta SDK will be endorsed and if it bricks, they won't refuse to take the phone back.

I really hope so. I've had enough of webapps and waiting for them to load over edge. I hope Apple also gives us some teaster apps on thursday. Something that they made that sets the bar and says to us all waiting this is what you waited so patiently for isn't this great.

can a jailbroken phone have SDK too?
Will anything be effected if you have a jailbroken phone? Like if you wanted to get a legit app, and your phone is JB, can you still get the legit app? Also, my phone is still not jail broken so I dont know how this works but you dont pay for apps with a jail broken phone, they're all free right?

As of now, if you're jailbroken and running the latest (1.1.4) firmware, it looks as if both jailbreak sort of apps and legit apps should be possible, unless there is something Apple has up its sleeve that nobody has talked about as yet.
Almost all apps available via Installer on a jailbroken phone are free, but there are some that are trialware or limited until you purchase or contribute ...
