Im getting a little pissed off

I just checked my phone and well... no music, videos, and playlists. If I knew 1.1.4 was going to be this disappointing I wouldn’t of done it. Now, because of the dumb update that I didn't need (as far as I know) I have to sit on the computer and load every single song and video back to my phone.

I was starting to think that this isn't like Apple to make the update so lame, there’s gotta be something more to it. I just find it hard to believe that this was just a "bug" update. The Starbucks thing would really make me happy, but until then I’m very unimpressed and disappointed.

Is any one else with me?

I'm really sorry to hear that. I did the 1.1.4 upgrade to both my Touch and my iPhone with no hiccups whatsoever. Everything was working as before once the system was done with the update. I didn't lose anything.

Couldn't have said it beter myself. This phone is still the iPhone! It is not perfect but I think apple has don a great job of updating it regularly.

You can do a restore and then use a back-up. You won't lose anything.

if you keep your music in iTunes, and your contacts synced to your computer like you're supposed to, then all you have to do is restore and resync. it'll take 30 minutes max, which is mostly automated by iTunes... it requires very little effort on the user's end.

weird s%#! happens with software once in a while no matter what company makes it. That's why you back up your stuff.

I fail to see what the issue with locking the phone is.
Steve is having these phones punched out for PEANUTS in china.
More hacked phones are in use than legit phones.

Either do it right or dont bother.

What it is is a Geek toy. And I love it.
Ive got big plans for my iphone. But its more like a love hate relationship. Im going to get a real phone and keep this as a toy or small PC and use it for what I have planed.
Had to spend 12 hours straight to unbrick my phone. (The hack masters still hadnt released all the info at the time). I only had one thought in my mind thru out. F-Apple. This sucks and is so pointless.

As far I know, Apple released the 1.1.4 update to do some bug-fixes, If your iPhone/iPod Touch is not working correctly then rather downgrade to 1.1.3 :)

2 minutes after making the last post my speaker went dead. No sound from the phone calls or ipod.

Have decided to just pull the sim and go back to my Nokia. Till this turns into a real phone. That doesn't have bug fixes ever month. I thought Vista sucked this is worse.
Will work on the code ports for the apps Im working on at least the dev chain came down ok.

Let things stabilize.

To the others who really tried to help Thank you sir.It never fails to amaze me when people go out and get an iPhone and expect it to be something that it's not. All of the hacks and unlocks are done to avoid the security model that keeps the iPhone working. If you bought an iPhone expecting it to be a laptop replacement, then you picked the wrong product. There are plenty of other devices that can do a better job of that and the iPhone was never designed to be a replacement for a PC.

With that said, I am an IT professional who happens to enjoy the iPhone and its stability and reliability after years of constant (daily if not more often) resets with other devices. Yes, I know the iPhone has its limitations... but what product doesn't? It hasn't been perfect for me either. But I knew what I was buying.

My iPhone is doing great. I made the update with iPhone #2 and it was fine, and then again with iPhone #3 since it came with 1.1.3. I did the restore and sync before I did the update when I got the replacement.

I'm currently catching up on some podcasts, mostly Today in iPhone since I just found this one a few days ago.

I've also watched a couple of YouTube videos today, one of them while trying to figure out how I can get to the YouTube browser from a link sent via SMS. I found I can open the YouTube browser directly from an http:// YouTube link, but it is buggy; it brings up a dialog telling me I need an active EDGE or Wi-Fi connection, of which I have the former here at work. So, I have to type the URL manually into Safari, use the iTransmogrify! bookmarklet when the YouTube page is fully loaded, and then it opens a Google redirect link, and I have to click the YouTube link from there, and THEN the YouTube browser properly starts playing the file.

Can you tell I'm bored and have nothing to do here at work? :)

I may have to replace the iPhone AGAIN, though. The screen has a much more noticeable "scan" flicker than my other one did. Both LCD IDs start with 7, I'm not sure if that's what I'm supposed to be looking at to determine the series of the LCD, that might just mean what year it was made in...

I can honestly say I've not seen Situation 2 ... Many of the users at EIC have said "Well our preference is our IPhones, sure there are better phones out there for whatever you want it to do. Is the IPhone the end all be all, yeah I say it is cause I love my IPhone, but a Treo user, or a Tilt user may argue that point. It's like going to a fight with a toothpick when your opponent has a M82A1 Barrett!

Yeah some get testy, but who doesn't when they have a firm stand on the things that make them happy... :)

I love being a part of EIC we can have fun, we can post stupid things but most of the members are here to learn something or offer help and sometimes it's more of helping others!

To the OP. I feel your pain. When I updated to the "Beefy" 1.1.3, the update erased nothing. When I updated to the lame 1.1.4, the update erased everything. There should be a standard from Apple. All updates should either erase, or not erase the iPhone. Sure it is easy to sync, but when pressed for time, it can be a headache. A standard from Apple, one way or the other, would help you decide when to update, based on how much time you have. I did not see your post as *****ing.
