.MOV is most definitely supported on the iPhone. Most likely that the file was encoded improperly.

only some .MOV files will play on my iPhone, so I converted all my videos to MP4 and their smaller so I'm better off LOL

As a new Mackbook owner I was wondering what the correct way to encode is. Also I have subscribed to many video podcasts through itunes and they will not snyc to my iphone (gives me the "format not supported" error)....

Any suggestions?

I found a couple of links with some info which may help.

http://www.mp4mail.com/docs/intro

http://mac.blorge.com/2007/09/27/iphone-update-adds-mp3-and-wav-email-attachment-support/

Apparently, the current firmware only supports wav and mp3 files as attachments. You may want to explore the mp4mail option if you want to regularly e-mail video clips.

Aha! So it's mail. I knew that it supported video viewing, but apparently not .MOV. Looks like the encoding is okay.

Forget this post. This isn't about Safari.

Email, it said nothing about email... Yes, .mov email movies aren't supported, although they will appear to "load", only the sound will play.

I received an email last night with a .mov attached, and it played fine. No sound, but I was still able to see my daughter crawling...

Yeah I'm not sure why the sound didn't work. Not sure if it's an issue with the iPhone or camera that took the movie...

But it did work, so yours should too.

It's very weird. I wonder if it's a MP4 movie that was renamed .mov. It wouldn't make sense otherwise.

i just showed her how to export as "iphone mp4" and that is all good now.. works like a charm...

still weird that it cannot be just a .mov file...

Was this a video taken with a camera or on done using the macbook pro camera. Either way, what program did you use to export it as an iphone mp4....

Thanks,

anyway I don't understand why we can't play quicktime files with other codecs than mpg4.
it should be very easy to do, this phone has a better operation system than an old G3; so why we can't install codecs like sorenson, mpg1 ? i am not asking for windows media video. just mac files....
