I use it with a laptop that is connected to a big-screen TV. Let's me surf the Web, watch media content, etc., without touching the laptop (it's now hidden).

MikeMike, how quickly does this app respond when controlling pc mouse? Is there a delay of some sort, or is it instant?

It's very quick; I can't really see any delay. One issue is that right-clicking needs to be tweaked--it doesn't work right at the moment.
I am gonna try this in a training session next (projector environment).

Saw this yesterday a gave it a whirl. Not much use for Apple users IMHO, we got Apple Remote for Front Row/iTunes/Keynote which is much more cohesive. Definitely promising on the PC front however.
Cool thing for Mac users, you don't need to install VNC to use this, just enable Screen Sharing, and in the Remote APP, use your Mac admin log/pass to login. Built in VNC ftw :)

Sorry if I confused you, but screen sharing with built-in VNC is a Mac feature. For PC google search Tight-VNC. That should point you to a PC install file.

This is a place for exchanging information and helping each other. Just because you didnt get an immediate answer to your question doesn't justify your comments about the forum or the members. You didnt even post your question until almost 4PM last night and maybe you don't understand but most of us have a life outside of this forum and it will sometimes take a day for you to get the answer you need. That doesnt mean we, or the forum, are "lame". It means that the few people that saw your question didn't have the answer you needed or were going to do some research to save you from having to do it yourself.
This is the greatest forum on the internet for iPhone support and the members here are exceptional when it comes to being helpful. Heck, some of them have even corrupted their own phones trying to find the answer to peoples questions. "pretty lame", HA HA...

I was wondering if you could walk me through a manual install on this 3rd party app. I could use the installer but I hate waiting for the refresh and I think it would be good to know.
My first question is do you have to Secure Shell into your phone or can you use iBrickr?

Awesome app! Mad props to the developer. While it's not exactly practical, it's not always about the iphone being practial as it about BEING AWESOME! This would be a great app to play a prank on someone. The versatality of this phone never ceases to amaze me.
If only this phone had Infared on it, you could program it to be a remote control for your tv too!

INSTALL tightVNC (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/vnc-tight/tightvnc-1.3.9-setup.exe)
Run INSTALLER
Add http://cnp.qlnk.net/ to your sources
REFRESH sources
Go to INSTALL
Select ALL PACKAGES
Select TOUCHPAD It will be very close to the bottom. The list is alphabetized
RUN TIGHT VNC
Run TOUCHPAD
Hover mouse over TIGHT VNC icon in system tray
Note IP address
Run TOUCHPAD
Press the + button on the top right
Add the IP address indicated by TIGHT VNC
Double Click Tight VNC and enter whatever you want in the PASSWORD field and hit APPLY
ENTER PASS into TOUCHPAD and enjoy!

That link appears to be about port forwarding. Port forwarding should only apply when you are trying to connect from outside the network, not when you are already inside.
What needs to be done is open firewall ports. And ports 5800/5900 might not be blocked by the router, they could be blocked by a personal firewall running on the PC itself.

I thought it was my firewall at first, too. I turned it off to see if I could connect and still couldn't. As soon as I opened the ports in the router is starting working.

I know that but there is a difference between opening and forwarding a port. By forwarding ports 5800/5900 you are exposing the PC to outside VNC connections--with nothing but a rather weak password (not username/password) protecting it. That's fine if that is what you want to do--and in fact I do it so I can use VNSea remotely.
But for just using Touchpad, forwarding ports 5800/5900 is an unwarranted risk.

yeah, never mind i got it working. it is really cool.
for the people having problem with the 5900 port, you may have the wrong ip address typed into the touchpad app. i had the error come up my first time. i went (on the PC) into network connection status window through your connections screen. then clicked on details and another window came up showing a bunch of info. i copied the ip that showed up after "IPv4 IP Address:" and then it worked.
im sure you have seen this screen before. click the details button then try the address that shows up after the IPv4 IP if it is different then the last one you tried.

This application is really cool, watching movies on the flat screen from the PC is going to be so much easier. FYI If you do a manual install you have to change all the permissions.
You know what would be a cool application to this, the ability to see video on your phone from your PCs web cam!!! I know it's been done already with websites dedicated to pet monitoring but it would be cool to see what the haps was at home on the fly or it would be an added security measure if you needed to leave your labtop unprotected for a few.

As far as I know this is normal for a remote connection. Desktop background is an option on my Remote Desktop that I can toggle on and off. I think it's supposed to keep things running quicker.
