Handbrake problem

So I'm trying to use handbrake but it won't recognize any DVDs. I have a DVD in the drive and have handbrake running but it doesn't initiate when I insert a DVD. I'm using HandBrake 0.9.1 on OS X Tiger. Is there another free program I can use to rip dvds to my iphone? Thanks.

You must hit the source button on the upper left side, and it should open a window, then highlight DVD, another window opens usually with two files, one being VIDEO_TS. Open that window and HandBrake will work.

I've done dozens, it's great.
