Edit- This Source is now Offline. I will be moving to a new Source which will be posted shortly.
Howdy, by request I'll be hosting my own Installer Source to see how things fare with my host. Theres only a few things there at the moment, but I do plan on putting more things up over time. Mostly the stuff I've previously released, icons etc, but with an easier way to install them ;)
Note: All the hosted packages on my source are for 1.1.3 iPhones unless stated otherwise in the title and description.

Clean Springboard i.e. No Icons? Try Blank App
If you'd like to have a clean Springboard like the one pictured below, install Blank App. This blank app acts as a place holder so you can create what appears to be a blank page. Because it's "invisible" you'll have to tap around to find it at first, which is why I made a splash screen heh. If you're having trouble finding it, try tapping after the last icon on your springboard, or install another program after Blank App, so that the new app will show up after Blank app's invisible icon alerting you to it's location.

X, if I may ask, how did you go about getting your source on Installer? I'd like to do the same, but gophering around on how to do hasn't shown any results.

Before I started sleuthing around I thought I'd have a go at looking at the source of the modmyifone and polarbearfarm sources. After examining both for a while I started to see a pattern forming, and realized this is just a Plist renamed to XML.
If you're familiar with Plists, then you should be right at home here, all you're really doing is setting up keys and their strings.
Some important things to note is that Installer has a bit of a fail-safe, this took me about an hour to figure out, lol. This fail-safe is basically the byte size of your zip file, if the one you define in the Plist under <size> does not actually match the byte count of the zip file it downloads you'll receive an error in Installer, either a Download Failed! or a Main Script Execution Error! (or something along those lines). I recommend uploading your zip files, then using CyberDuck to "get info" on them, followed by copy and pasting the byte count from that popup window into your plist. Also, do not use a comma in your byte size value, it should just read a number like "118345".
Click the link on the Source thats listed above in Safari, then view the source code on the page it brings you to. You'll see my plist and the keys I set to get everything to work.

Thanks Enigmanic!
Also, I've just sorted out how to do more with installer and can now update files and then replace them with their originals if uninstalled. That said, I've added a new iAno and NES icon to the source :) I've got a few more NES icons to put up with different themes, but thought I'd start off with Donkey Kong :)

Your stock icons are backed up, and then restored when you decide to uninstall any of the icons hosted on my source.

x666x,
I love all the icons you've made so far (I currently use your iAno and TTR ones). You should definitely put more up on your source. I've been looking for better ones to replace Domino and PockeyMoney. (I hate it when the default icons arent square...it totally messes up my theme).
x666x
02-18-2008, 01:45 PM
Thanks again Enigmanic,
And I totally agree on preferring the icons to stick to square shapes, the uniformity just goes in line with the clean aesthetics of the phone imho.
As for the other icons, I've moved to a different computer from when I first made most of the icons I did, so I'll be posting what I can find as I dig it up off the other machine.
I've got a Final Fantasy themed icon for NES on the way, as well as the TTR theme/icons from a while back also.

No prob, glad to have helped, its how I learned originally too, from someone on these boards!
I've also just posted my Simon Garf theme :) Its a combination of a now defunct Mac application and my own lit-up graphics to adapt it to garf.

I've just uninstalled all my packages, deleted the source from my Installer, rebooted, and then added my source again and everything shows up just fine... I'm stumped.
Could it be that you're letting auto correction capitalize the letters for you? The Installer Source URL is case sensitive on my server, and if you don't enter it entirely in lowercases, http://dezign999.com/iphone/index.xml , then it won't show up because http://dezign999.com/iPhone/index.XMLdoes not exist on my server.
Hope that helps.

Cool.
Here's another one:
The Leopard999 theme does not show up in my Summerboard after I installed it. Nor does the Blank App do anything. Can it be that they only work with 1.1.3 phones? I ask because there are 2 Summerboards out on installer (old and new) and so I have the old one.
Anyone else having these issue?

These are all for 1.1.3 D:
Maybe I should put a check for firmware first and abort the install if you're not on 1.1.3.
I can make a 1.1.2 version however, if thats what the problem here is.
Regarding the Blank app, take a look at the text I wrote on the main page for tips on how to find it.
Let me know what firmware you're on, I'm going to have to make a few more corrections to the original post and my installer xml.

You're just awesome.
I am on 1.1.2. I read the message you put in the pop up while installing the Blank App. But, that's not the reason. As you said, it is because these are all for 1.1.3.
It's be great to have ones for 1.1.2. There's plenty of us out there with 1.1.2 phones as the 1.1.3 upgrades are way too problematic with all sorts of core functions not working right.
Thanks for all your effort. I hope there are still people like you around once the SDK comes out and people start looking to sell their stuff to Apple.
Keep us posted on your changes.

If you wouldn't mind refreshing your resources, I've added a 1.1.2 Leopard theme install which puts the file in /var/root/ for 1.1.2 iphones. I had to put a firmware sniffer for 1.1.3 users do dump them out of the install process if they tried anyway. Please let me know if this works for you, I will add 1.1.2 versions for the rest of my themes etc based on your feedback.
@duckdogdrake
I've seen your posts in another thread regarding your download problem, which leads me to believe its not related to my installer source. I'm afraid I can't offer any help here that hasn't already been mentioned in the other thread on that subject. I'd like to keep the topic of this discussion on my installer source any issues related to it specifically.
Sorry.
Edit -
I've done some testing of my own and it looks like the 1.1.2 Theme I posted should install just fine now for those on 1.1.2.

Hehe, I need to work on my explanation of this app's purpose, but basically if you look at the screenshot for my leopard theme, you'll notice it appears as if my springboard is entirely empty! This is what Blank app is for, you can place it onto a new page as a place holder to really show off your wallpaper.
This used to be accomplished on 1.1.2 by simply using Dock, but since that hasn't worked for me in 1.1.3 I've resorted to using this Blank app. Oh, and the reason it has a splash screen is so you can tell where it is when you tap/hold to move it to a new page.

Yeah, because if you want the same affect on 1.1.2 you just use a combination of Customize to hide your icons, and Dock as a launcher for your apps.

To get Blank Apps working on 1.1.2, you'd have to install 12 of them if you want a clean page. You'll have to do this manually though, as x666x's source only installs 1. It's actually very simple to do via WinSCP...I did it back when I was on 1.1.1 and 1.1.2. (I like having a clean, first page).
x666x
02-19-2008, 11:15 AM
I've added a couple more SummerBoard themes, but they're 1.1.3 only at the moment. I think I'm going to have to make a 1.1.2 at some point to keep things clean and make sure theres no confusion with whats available to each firmware.
Also, I'd like to ask that people do not add my Installer Source to any "Master List" or repost my address in any other forums, its just for EIC members only. I've renamed my Source's main category to "999's Fight Club" (on the sources tab) because the first rule of Fight Club is, "There is no Fight Club."
All of my content is unique, you can't get it anywhere else, and I'd like to keep it that way. So if you keep this source under your hat, the longer we'll all benefit from it ;)

Well, unfortunately all it did was allow for the program to launch. It wouldn't actually change any graphics however when applied. I just changed the permissions as stated in Wildonrio's thread but it didn't work, and after much investigation I found 4 other "customize fixes" that were all different. Everyone's results varied, and nothing really seemed to be the all-in-one solution, its a series of hoops and installs.
That said, I removed the "fix" from my installer because it didn't really fix anything, just let the program launch and open up a whole new can of worms to figure out :T

Sure, I can host them for you. I'd feel safer making a "Beta" source for you guys to test. I'd really hate to steer people wrong with what they think may be a fix, but it doesn't work as intended because its still getting the kinks worked out-sort-of-thing.
Glad to hear you've enjoyed the source, aside from the Simon Garf theme, theres not much new, this is really just a compilation of stuff I've done in the past for the scene. I've just finally gotten off my bottom and learned how to make it easier to share thanks to installer.
I suppose my next project is to actually make "More Info" pages for all the install files that are available, lol. Right now they just goto a place holder.

Thanks, I've taken the code from the Dim version and edited it for the Color version. I've posted the latest XML and this should work for you now once you've refreshed your sources.
Ultimately I think what I'm going to have to end up doing is more scripting to detect what firmware you're on, and then determine where to install. That will keep my XML a lot smaller and make for faster refreshes in the end. I've just been a bit lazy to be honest, and have been copy/pasting the 1.1.3 install scripts and swapping out their names and install locations for 1.1.2.

Hi, was there something specific you were looking for, like the VW theme or instructions on how to use the blank app?
I haven't posted the VW Theme yet, but I will tonight after I get home from the airport.
I've also looked at my thread which covers the Blank app, but it only explains how to create a blank app out of an existing web app, which is more trouble than its worth since moving Blank .app to my Installer Source.
Give me some specifics and I'll point ya in the right direction.

On the topic of iZoo, you know I'm thinking of just doing the same icon replacement with that app too lol. I was gonna make my own, but I found this one online and I think it works well enough as is:

I just PM'd you back and realized if you'd like to share some of these yourself I could go over the Installer Source xml with you and get you up and running with your own source.
It may compliment what you're doing with the Wallpapers, as I've just realized I could upload a wallpaper and thumbnail directly to /Libary/Wallpaper/ and have them show up in the Stock Wallpaper menu in General Settings.
I'm going to be putting a couple wallpapers up on my source using this method when I get back from the airport later this evening. Send me another PM if you want my source XML to go off of.

I will be making an announcement regarding the new source on my main account x999x, which will make this my last post on x666x for a while, who knows?

Note to Existing Source Users
When my new source is announced, I highly recommend you uninstall all the files from this source before you install similar packages from my new source.
thanks x666x I'll be looking forward to seeing your new source.

Yeah, I just totally forgot I didn't add some new wallpapers to the Source XML after I posted. lol!
I got the "More Info" pages done and got so excited I posted thinking I could take it Live already...
Welp, got one more wallpaper to code and then test and then I'll have a new Source URL to post shortly :)

Oh well I said that hoping you'd say no then I'd say this:
I just got the free hosting that had the apps4iphone.net domain already attached and you being hosted on my site would make me one hell of a happy soul.
