Installer does not work, nothing downloads!!

I tried posting in a larger thread with no help. I've tried installing 6 or so different apps from installer ( SSH and BSD for example ), and the progress bar get's to 3/4'ths of the way full and gives me an error EVERYTIME. I have a secure wi fi connection and I live alone so its solid. Someone please help!!!!

forgive my ignorance possibly, but I noticed that the programs I tried to install don't have green stars next to them while others do. What does this mean, are they bad links, too many users? I just did a test and tried one with a green star and it worked fine. Do you have to wait until they're fixed or freed up? I hate posting on here with a lack of knowledge, but Im just frustrated.

I'm at the no sound issue now. Movies won't play either. I want to give up, but it was working up until now...
