I don't know if this has been covered before, but today is the first time I've seen my avatar actually animated on my iPhone. Usually its just a static picture.

ok, after replying in another thread, no more animated .gif!
WTF? Now my avatar is static on the iPhone again. I don't get it...
I've never seen an animated GIF. In fact, that was almost a deal-breaker for me since all of the weather radar sites I use animate with GIFs. Fortunately, there's iWeathr - Apple can send the commission for my purchase to them.

I have the animated GIFs working on my iPhone. But not EVERY time - sometimes a page requires a refresh!

Just tried that a few times... Didn't work! I wonder why I could see an animated GIF one time, then static all the other times. This is vexing. I'm very vexed. (what movie is that from)

Your cache may be full, and any extra bells and whistles like animation are just nixxed for the sake of reliable functionality when system resources are low.
Try emptying your cache to see if your avatar is recached this time as animating. I've noticed my gifs no longer animate, even more so now than before. A little disappointing to say the least, I mean my friggen DS' Opera browser will parse the animating gifs on this page without a problem.

Try this, clear your cache in Settings then launch Safari. Browse this site and then click your avatar to see your personal profile. Now click the refresh button.
It should animate, mine does when I try this. Kinda lame it doesn't do it when its actually parsed in the thread the first time around though :T

x, that worked for me, but as soon as I replied to another post, the animation was gone again. What the hell?!?! Must I clear cache each I wanna see an animated .GIF?

What's the point of the cache on safari if the damned thing reloads every dam page that's already opened. I hate that so much.

Could there be any way to simply prevent Safari from caching? I know that it will of course slow down page load times and such, but I'm fine with that if I could have proper page display in return. Plus, I'm sure this wouldn't effect the majority of us, as the majority probably has a good high speed Internet connection.

I have discovered that while viewing this page that when having my ipod on a certan angle that it does not animate gifs, but if you hold it on its side so the home button is facing your right it will display the gifs animated.
this works for viewing web pages but not for apache web server.
