Your best bet would be to do a search on 1.1.3 jailbreak. There will be load of info.

One piece of advice is to find a way - for this process at least - to not be shocking at following directions - try hard to follow them closely and get all the steps done - that will help a lot.

On other is if you have problems and you come back to ask questions, try to provide as much detail as possible about exactly where you're at, errors you see, all that jazz - makes it quicker for folks to help.

Hope it goes well ...

think ill be ok, can you give me a jist a what a jailbroken phone actually does (I know it sounds daft, but ive never seen one) does it change the whole interface? is there things I should steer clear of? Things that are a definite d/l?

What a jailbroken phone does = basically, allows 3rd party apps to run on it, so anything that a developer can get an app to do - there are already a lot of apps that do lots of different things, from games to utilities etc. Your best bet is to look through Installer and see what strikes your fancy.

The whole interface doesn't change, though jailbreaking does give you the ability to cutomize it via apps like Summerboard (for themes etc) and Customize.

Things to steer clear of and definite picks are really subjective ...

So theres nothing you can download that is like a virus? ive taken he step to jailbreaking because basically the SDK feature that is coming soon, us the customers will poss have to pay for the best apps. so then I thought well im sure some clever person will stick it on the jailbreak phones for fre! SOLD!

Hopefully it wont take too long now. is the amount of apps dpendent on the amount of space you have left? do apps take up a lot of space?

I don't know of any virus / malware type app for the iPhone as yet - doesn't mean it can't happen though.

Not sure if your theory on all the best apps getting free versions will prove true.

Yes, you can only install as many apps as will fit in the space available. Most apps do not take up much space at all ...

so can you just uninstall when you get bored and install something new?

I do believe that you can easily just remove programs when you are bored/slash done with them. What i want to know is the process by which you undo the jailbreak if you need to bring it in for any reason. Do you just plug it in and press restore. Does it have to be plugged into the computer? What things can brick your phone that you should avoid doing. I"m also considering jailbreaking.

I am so glad for this thread! I started the process of jailbreaking my phone but chickened out, because I know that if something went wrong I wouldn't be able to tolerate certain features of the phone not working until I got it straightened out. I don't trust myself at all.

SO...I've been wondering if there is anyone who would do this for me? I'd pay the person for their time. I live in Missouri, so could easily take it to KC, Spfd, or STL; otherwise I'd Fed Ex it?

Until then I'll keep reading the responses on this thread, as I've wondered these same things.

Small suggestion - if you want help on doing this, you could probably do this more affordably with a bit of hand-holding by phone while you do it - save some shipping fees, and get done more quickly. I'd give that a go with you if we schedule a time, or I'm sure others might be happy to do so as well ...
