They are protected files. This means you can't even burn them to a DVD.

Oh I am sure there are screen capture utilities that can scrape video as it plays--including iTunes rented movies. But I can't see why: just rent the DVD if you plan on ripping. Easier, better quality. (I do it so I can time-shift my rentals.)

i know thank god, i have my handy ripping program for my iphone sooo i just keep ordering movies, but the itunes thing would be a lot quicker.
