Ok, it's feb and the sdk will finally be released this month. What are the applications your most looking forward to, desperately need or are biting your nails off in anticipation for? :gasp:

Lots, but some that come to mind as being somewhere near top of the list are:
secure password manager
a global search utility
better, more powerful notes app
task manager
RSS reader
video recording
Lincoln

And now all of the SDK threads start.
Some I'd like to see:
Video Recording with audio (above all)
iPhone-wide search
Password Manager
Application like SysInfo
Games
Better Mail App
Something like Customize/SummerBoard (not gonna happen, unfortunately.)

Think there's a lot that could be improved with the mail app. Tinman had a pretty good gripe list in some thread a little while back, but it's weak in a lot of places - one other that immediately springs to mind is being able to switch between accounts without so many backwards steps ...

Yes definitely. I woke up this morning and iPhone said I had zero email. I went into the email app and sure enough, it started downloading like 5 emails. Turns out my boss was trying to contact me since last night. :frown: The email rendering is great but the retreiving/receiving is worse than any phone, they really need to fix this.

Im in total agreement with the above posts. I'd also really like a dedicated IM app and good old fashion MMS.

If the DS Lite can hold up good touch screen games, why can't the iPhone?
-I would like some official games for the iPhone..
If other phones can have video recording, why can't the iPhone?
-I would like video recording available on the iPhone..
That's pretty much it really...

@John:
iDeleteMail and iReadmail can mass mark as read and mass delete. Took me forever to find.

I haven't got one yet, but I'd like to have:
- A task manager/to do list
- Game emulators (Merely entertainment)
- IM Program (MSN etc.)
- MMS
That's it really, with a to do list and MMS being my most wanted.
I like all of the ideas so far from you other folks and I've yet to get a phone for myself but I would really like to see some "online" games created, I'm talking like MMORPG's or something of that sort.
It wouldn't have to be that graphic intensive or too in depth but maybe something simple and smooth.
Something that could be played over edge easily or if that's not possible then maybe you'd have to find a wifi connection but still, I think it'd be awesome!
Maybe something like Ragnorok or similar ya know? I still sometimes often miss my EverCrack days....wow...what an absolute GREAT waste of time..:tounge:
Oh and of course you'd prolly need one of these:
http://fastmac.com/iv.php
I've just always loved online gaming and since i've "grown-up" a bit over the past years I've quit playing them...I think mobile online gaming could be huge in the near future.
NEways....

Global search feature...hell....ANY search feature, even if it's on an app by app basis.
Cut/Copy and Paste within and between apps
Bluetooth OBEX
Anything else is gravy as far as I'm concerned...different mail app, Exchange and Activesync wireless synchronization (ain't gonna happen), games, real IM client, etc. But those 3 are my biggest "OMG I can't believe it doesn't do this" list of missing features.

I'm not really desperate for any apps, bit there a few that I think I would appreciate:
IM (though I use Jivetalk at the mo so not a big issue)
To do list
some way of copy/paste etc. Or flash support (though I am currently using different solutions for this)
Also, does anyone think that there might be a new browser developed and released by someone with the SDK? Maybe a mobile firefox or something else? I am happy with safari but i am just curious.

All I WANT IS FLASH, MMS, AND VIDEO RECORDER.. Is that to much to ask for?
crossing my fingers
yeah so I'm pretty much repeating but I really want a native aim application. This is by far what I want most. Then some games. The layout of the phone leaves so much potential for games; I hope that use it. And I agree with (I think it was john) the fact that we need a mass delete button. Thats about all. MMS would be nice

The only way I would go legit (unjailbroken) is if they put out:
NES, GameBoy Advance, PlayStation, and SNES game emulators.
Ability to customize icon pictures (Themes)
acosmichippo
02-03-2008, 01:36 PM
well, i can tell you with 99.9% certainty that apple will not distribute any emulators, and with 90% certainty that "wiggly icons" is the most official customization we'll get.

Application wise i would like to see:
-To Do List
-Some decent games (bejeweled, solitare, tetris, etc..)
-A word / spreadsheet processing or editing program
-An expense tracking program
-A secure password tracking system
-A lot of the stuff that palm used to do. they had some great apps back in their hay-day... Blackberry apps are okay too, i hope some of the programers for the sdk are some of the same people / companies that wrote those apps.

I don't just want a password program, I want SplashID. It's an awesome password program that already works on the Mac. Please bring it to us soon!
An email app that supports Exchange would be nice.
A video recorder...come on, we have gigs to store it on.
A copy/paste app...yeah, come on...

Bluetooth OBEX?
OBEX=OBject EXchange. It's a protocol that lets you wireless exchange files between devices. If enabled on the iPhone, I could send files between it and my Mac without the need for a cable. iTunes wireless synch, for example.
Of course, given how locked down the iPhone is already, not likely to see this anytime soon.
bluetooth iTunes syncing (wireless, with confirming, I suppose),
Not sure if this is the same thing as what you've posted above, but I'd love to be able to sync with itunes to get updates and or manage music and video files on your home computer through wifi or 3g when that comes.
You know? Why should you HAVE to be home to sync with your desktop or even break out your laptop, wouldn't it be great to just do it ALL from your iphone?! I think it'd be great!

really all of the "apps" i have ever wanted have been provided by 3rd parties... everything else i'm waiting for would be considered more functions of the OS... like landscape on ANY screen, springboard customization, flash support, bluetooth syncing, c&p... stuff like that.
unfortunately, i don't expect any of those things to be provided due to the release of the SDK.

well, it certainly wouldn't hurt but slingbox/slingplayer is designed to deal with whatever bandwidth you have. It certainly won't look great - probably alot like youtube via edge.
But I would use it via wifi a bunch too.

Sling player is the software client piece to the Slingbox (http://www.slingmedia.com/). There is a free one for Windows/Mac and a pay one for Windows Mobile / Palm.

That sounds right. I thought I'd seen somewhere that they didn't want to release it for the iPhone with just Edge - but think there have been lots of conflicting reports really ...

when the sdk is released there will probably be some hack that allows us, through itunes, take current apps for jailbroken phone and put them into a non-jailbroken phone. kind of like adding custom ringtones through itunes.

Google maps is nice. I find that the loacation is off quite a bit on my iphone though. But a 3rd party GPS POI database would rock.
Blutooth support please please. I have a great system in my car. Pioneer AVICd3 and the bluetooth support sucks ie address book connection etc....Also I have bluetooth stereo headphones and would love to use them when I workout. No cord to get caught and worry about. Hopefully SDK will allow developers to use the bluetooth more robustly.
Its been stated a couple of times but splash ID is the best password program hands down. I have used it on 2 platforms (MS Mobile and Palm OS) and it is the shizzle.

The bluetooth stereo would not be possible through software, as it requires A2DP which would require a hardware update.

I want a better camera application that allows picture manipulation (like light, contrast, color, sizing, etc...something very basic (*)I'm not talking Photoshop for the iPhone.
And it will be so useful with the upgraded camera of iPhone II (32 or 64 GB, 8 megapixels, zoom and macro and a flash). Then I will be truly happy.
