landscape will not leave space to type ... Well not that much room but space will be limited

Yeah I wouldn't consider this as an issue as typing in landscape mode for SMS would be difficult.

I think Apple would have to change that in the software. I can't see that being another application released by a company.

I dont think it would be an app more under the lines of being in a software update.

Unless there is some sort of miracle this will not be possible via an add-on (unless the add-on completely replaces existing apps). This stuff is done inside the app itself.
