I officially made the move from Sprint Palm Treo 700p to Apple iPhone on Sept 13th 2007. How many of you have made similar moves ? I used to visit a website called Treonauts.com on a daily basis and buy accessories for my Treo there. Now I spend all of my time (and money, lol) here on the iCafe website. I actually visited my old haunt Treonauts recently, and was slightly dissappointed about how skimpy there message boards are compared to here. Our community is much more lively. In fact, I learned about this website way before Sept 2007 because the owner belongs to the same NY Islander message board I go to. iCafe is awesome !!

I did. Funny enough, i came here today after receiving the treo newsletter and seeing how skimpy the information was. I thought, i might pass by and see what's going here. I dont think its about the iPhone being a superior phone but more like Palm just ceasing to innovate. I would have moved to a windows device if this hadnt come along.

I did. I had a treo 650 that was driving me crazy. It kept crashing and going into endless loops. I reinstalled everything dozens of times (not an exaggeration ). Had to reenter all those serial numbers too.
The iPhone has been heaven till I got that dead strip yesterday.

I used a Treo 650 for two years and my contract with Sprint ran out last summer in June. I was going to get the new Treo that was running Windows Mobile but I didn't want to pay the full price for it even though Sprint would end me a rebate for my old phone for $150. Then a few weeks later the iPhone came out and I spend the money anyways, more money then I wanted to spend on the Treo.

My previous phone was a Blackberry Curve but I had a Palm Treo 680 and 750 for 6 months before then. And I have to say, IMHO, they are peices of crap!! I really wish I never wasted my time and money on them and got the iPhone from the very start.
Although I have to say, if the iPhone never existed, I'd put the Blackberry Curve above the rest. That's why I will always have it as a backup.
I've always wanted to say that the iPhone is friggin' GREAT!!! And having support on these forums is even better. Every forum I visited for the Treo was just a bunch of complaining with no useful information.

I came from a Sprint Treo. Still have it, and it's still active. Crap, that reminds me, I think it's safe to cut that account off (it's out of contract). I originally kept it, and even carried it with me for a few months on business trips, in case the iPhone--or AT&T coverage--didn't cut it. Meanwhile I haven't used the Treo for more than six months (I have two other lines on Sprint so the Treo has only been costing me $20 per month).

i did, too. had a treo 680 which was not very stable despite the fact that i had only a handful of 3rd party apps on it. bluetooth would shut off every now and then for no reason, and it would just hang from time to time when i tried to open some of the *original* apps like phone and calendar. what a pain. my first treo was a 600 a few years ago - i sold that a few months after i bought it since that one drove me nuts too. i thought that palm would have gotten it right a few years later after having so much time to practice, but no such luck. so glad i never bought palm stock...

I had the treo 650 with cingular... It was crap for me.. Loading a webpage was painfully slow... I even canceled the media web package cause it was a waste of $39.99 a month to use the email and web.. but now with the iphone get get all that and more.. and yes icafe....

I went from a Cingular 650 to a 700 then to my Iphone.. then went back to a 700 cause I hated not being able to drive and text.. <Yeah I'm one of those> and ended up missing the "clarity" of the screen and the crisp graphics that I went back to an IPhone again! LOL.... I'm a woman I'm SUPPOSE to be indecisive :)

I have a treo 750. It was a decent phone, but the main drawback was poor screen resolution, no wifi. I use it as a backup now or when I want to use my slingbox. I guess if or when I can use slingbox on my iPhone I won't need the treo anymore. I also used to have a treo 650, but it sucked bigtime. I got my iPhone the first day in Oakland, CA. I have been more than satisfied with it.

I also had a Treo 680 and 750 before my iPhone. As redmonkeyx said, it's no iPhone. Just before I had my iPhone, I was using the Blackberry Curve, but I've since sold it and have been in iPhone bliss ever since (I got my iPhone on iDay).
Yeah, I agree with all of you that the Treos were pieces of crap. I spent more time configuring it and backing it up in case my phone decided to hard reset itself (which actually happened before a business meeting) than I did using and enjoying it. I don't think I could go back to any other 'mortal' phone, since I've used (and LOVE) my iPhone.
Oh, and to the OP... Great to see DiPietro in goal for the All-Star game last weekend! I am a LA Kings fan/season ticket holder.

I've had every Treo they made. The 700 was actually pretty stable for me. It's funny how when the thing would "only" freeze on me a couple of times a week I just accepted that pretty good performance. Man - If my iPhone froze that much now I'd go nuts!
I'd have to say that, prior to the iPhone, the BlackJack was the best smartphone I've used. I make heavy use of email, internet, phone, music, AND video, so I really do want/need a full-fledged converged device (and this also rules out Blackberry's for me). The BlackJack was efficient and stable, and I loved it when I had it.
But man, when I look at that teensy postage stamp screen now, it breaks my heart. I could never go back to squinting like that. I feel so guilty about having fallen in love with another woman, er, iPhone.
I'll never forget that fateful night with my BlackJack, on the evening of iDay...
"Blackie, we have to talk. It's not you, BlackJack, it's me! I never meant for this to happen. I never wanted you to get hurt. You can't choose who you fall in love with, sometimes things just happen. The heart wants what the heart wants. It is what it is. We'll always be friends. You deserve better than me. Someday the right username will come along. Blah blah blah..."

I wanted a Iphone since it was first announced but my wife said not until my Treo 650 died. So I waited until I couldn't wait any more (December) and then after 3 accidential drops from various heights the screen finally broke. The phone however still worked thanks to the keypad so my last drop was into a sink filled with water.

Count me as a former Treo user. Had a Sprint 700p. Never had a problem for about a year and 2 months. Fell in love with the iPhone. Got one August 10. Would never go back.
Still trying to sell the Treo ...... and it's difficult.

I switched from the sprint 700w. The treo did more, but I really didnt have that much use for it. I don't need to edit a excel document on my phone. The Iphone has a lot more options that I really use, and it looks better.

I got a Sony Ericsson K800, replacing my K750, for christmas 2006, but then around November, my dad got an upgrade of the Motorolla Z8, which after a few weeks, he didn't like, so he let me use it for a bit, but then i had problems with it, and had to switch back to my K800. But, I couldn't find the battery for it, so I had to go all the way back to my old K750 for about a month, until I got my iPhone.
Anyway, point is, during all this, I also had a Palm Lifedrive, which is relevant to this topic lol. I now don't use this, but it was running an iPhone app that made it look like an iPhone with buttons that could be assigned to different apps, and the OS had a mac os x theme, So it was practically exactly like an obese iPhone :)

I had a treo 650 for close to 2 years. It started doing some funky things and I was trying to hold off till the 3g iphone came out, but after winning $400 at the casino, I stopped at the AT&T store on the way home. I only have had for a week, but I love it so far

Same story pretty much except a December iDate. Had the 300, 600, 650, 700p, and now the iPhone. Can't give the damned Treo away, it seems, even with a TomTom GPS package and goodies.

I got $200 for my Treo and $150 for my iPod. So $350 total, which almost paid the $400 for my 8gig iPhone. I really enjoyed my Treo, a great device, and was kinda sad to see it go, but once I got all my songs and videos on my iPhone, I was hooked. The first time I got a call while listening to tunes, I was totally blown away !! The Internet and email are amazing ! Best gadget I've ever owned !!!

I was a Treo 700w user. I had to reset that phone 2 or 3 times a day. I would miss calls because it was frozen. What a crap operating system it had. But the speed of the EVDO was so nice.

Took me a year or so to find this thread. What about EverythingTreo (http://www.everythingtreo.com)?:tounge:
I'm guessing HFBoards? I stop in once a day to complain about my Isles. All will be right in the world if they get Johnny Tavares.
So all you former Treo owners, would you consider coming back to Palm for the Pre (http://www.everythingpre.com)?

Long time Palm and Treo user. Treo 600, Treo 650. Bought both when they 1st came out. Loved the Palm OS hated the instability. When the 1st iPhone was talked about I was really excited but upon introduction I decided it wasn't quite where I needed it to be and would wait for the 3g. I love my 3g even with some of it's short comings which will mostly be fixed with the upcoming update.

Had (still have) the 650 and 680. Moved to the iPhone 3G in August 2008, pretty much when it first reached us up here in Canada. Unlike others here, my Treos were rock solid stable. With the 680 in particular I would go months without a crash, and I was an app-o-holic with tons of 3rd party stuff and a custom ROM loaded on the device. I think the iPhone is a terrific phone, and I don't regret one bit changing camps, but, honestly, the PIM software for this thing is decidedly weak. While Apple has the definite edge in hardware design, Palm sure knew how to do software. It's not any one big thing... it's a hundred little ones ... like a calendar week view, or being able to make a duplicate calendar entry with a couple clicks (like, when you are leaving the dentist and make a copy of today's appt for your next cleaning 6 months down the road with a couple taps), or getting TODO's which actually sound an alarm when they're near due (and sync with Outlook!!).... It goes on and on. The Palm Pre is still vapourware, but I will definitely give that a serious look when it comes out. On paper, it still looks way better than iPhone 3.0 from where I'm standing.

The Palm Pre is certainly not vaporware. Trust me, I spent hours watching it in action. I didn't witness one crash, nor did I see anyone reporting odd behavior in the OS. They have built a solid OS from the ground up. It'll take some time for the developer base to grow and one of the potential weaknesses might be lack of third party apps from the get go. I don't think any platform will match the quantity of apps offering in the App Store.
Unlike most, I don't see it as 3.0 vs. Pre. I see it as Apple's next gen iPhone vs. Pre.

Let me go on record (all butt kissin' aside) and say that I LOVED EverythingTreo when I had my 650. Like here, it was a lifesaver spot of info and saved my butt a lot of times!
Ironically... I didn't really make the "Everything" connection, until a few months after starting to read here! (D'oh!) ;)
I still miss my Treo from time to time, but I honestly don't think I could go back. I'd still love to have a new Pre for a day or two to play with, but all in all I'm hooked on this iPhone.

I hear you Woofus but PatrickS hit the nail on the head with the following, 'like a calendar week view, or being able to make a duplicate calendar entry with a couple clicks (like, when you are leaving the dentist and make a copy of today's appt for your next cleaning 6 months down the road with a couple taps), or getting TODO's which actually sound an alarm when they're near due (and sync with Outlook!!).... When I said my 650 was unstable, after I removed an app. the crashing all but stopped. My Treo was a workhorse and I still have it. My needs changed and the iPhone fit those changes more so than my Treo. I think the new iPhone and the Pre are going to give the consumer some great choices.

The Palm Pre is certainly not vaporware. Trust me,... I certainly do trust that certain individuals have handled (fondled?) the thing, in the flesh, no doubt about it. But my definition of vapourware is stuff I can't buy yet (personal net worth notwithstanding), so from where I'm standing, the Pre qualifies. Unlike most, I don't see it as 3.0 vs. Pre. I see it as Apple's next gen iPhone vs. Pre. Provided both devices become non-vapourware (see definition above) at about the same time, I absolutely agree. Yep, this summer solstice should be a fun time.

I was a Palm addict since day one (almost 10 years). I loved the 650 and was constantly messing with custom ROMs. Agendus, Chattermail, Shadow, SplashID (now also available for the iPhone) ProfileCare, and a few other great applications made it fantastic. Loved being able to copy and paste, duplicate, link contacts, beam/send/email contacts. Stable as a rock. Then came the 700p. Ugh. Finally moved to the iphone in 2/08. Always been a mac fanatic, but never got into the ipod craze. Love the iphone but look forward to platform maturity for lack of a better term.

I'm a newbie with the iPhone but up to now this alone is the reason why I still carry my TREO 680 with me. I'm almost doing everything with the iPhone but the calendar and its ability to archive deleted items and alarms for each item have me still carrying my TREO 680 everywhere I go.

I did as well. I had a treo 700W (windows platform) from sprint. Actually I was pretty happy with Treo - No complains but wanted to try Iphone - the small little thing that has taken the world with storm. And my wife wanted an Iphone for a long time. So thought of switching yesterday. Have not explored the Iphone to the fullest as of yet but am loving the applications so far. Was never that big into music that much but I might change now!!

Not in a million years! I sincerely believe I've paid my dues with Palm. Having been with them circa Treo 600 - 750p, I got tired of hoping, wishing, praying & waiting for them to come out with a device that would knock our socks off.
Treos became boring. They all did the same old thing and removing an antennae is not what I call innovative; considering it took them how long to do that?

My Sprint contract ran out in June 2007 so I was ready to move on from the Treo 650. I bought the 1st generation iPhone July 6 2007. Every now and then I'll recharge the 650 just to look through it but I don't really miss it all that much.
I remember the Treo had this annoying bug where it would get the same email over and over till the phone just crashed. That bug was fixed in a later update. I never used the phone for email because of that. It was just too slow. Internet was just as bad.
iPhone for life here!

I had much the same experience as Scandalex. I started with the first hand held device with Palm, bought the Treo 600 when it first came out and moved right to the Treo 650 when it was launched. I loved the Treo 650 but it went through a series of bugs that Palm was slow to fix if at all. I bought the 3g when it came out and thought I might move back to Palm when the Pre came around. With all the apps for the iPhone I don't think there is any way I would change but never say never.
