? about syncing with ical

I have had my iphone since June and there were no complications until I killed my mac laptop with a 20 oz cup of Starbucks. My husbanc has generously given me his mac laptop which was purchase this past summer. I never backed up the itumes library, but customer service at itunes kindly allowed me to download everything a second time. My issue is now with the contacts and calendar. I know that when you enter a contact or appointment into iphone it will upload into ical, however, what if the contacts were previously downloaded from microsoft outlook and were not physically entered through the phone. Will all of those contacts upload as well or will I lose them?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me. This has been so frustrating.
