I noticed that there is a new app in Installer that does the soft-upgrade from your phone, without having to ssh anything. Have any of you tried it yet?

Yes I saw that when I jailbroke at 1.1.2 along with the cleanup app, which I did you the cleanup after the 1.1.3 jailbreak.

I don't know if I have read of anyone using the soft-upgrade app, or the how to use it?

It's a rogue release, be careful with this. Could be OK, or maybe not.

Yeah I just saw this at Mod MY iFone (http://www.modmyifone.com/cmps_index.php)

Good luck in trying to get on that site, it is always down.

Yea that site is turning into a joke. Last month they said all the problems would be gone due to a new server. Looks like that didn't happen.

HORRIBLE, if trying to view forums (unless you like to take a coffee break between pages).

I just tried like 6 times to read the MORE page to copy the howto, but it just crashes each time. But they were saying how to use that installer version

Just tried this method on another iphone and it seems to work fine. I'll report back if I have any issues. For those of you who can't access the "Read More", it states that you must have the following, prior to running this softupgrade:

1. A jailbroken 1.1.2 phone
2. The latest version of BSD (version 2.0).
3. The latest version of Installer (version 3.0b10)
4. Autolock set to Never.

It's recommend that you do this over a wifi connection.

The entire process took about 20 mins. I still have to create symlinks to fix the syncing issue, and of course use LocateMe to get Google Locator to work.

Could you please try google maps locator, and more importantly, try to sync your contacts and calendar with itunes. They were reports that contacts don't sync. Let us know. thanks

Are you referring to the contact syncing issue? If so, how do you create symlinks?

Yep, I am referring to syncing contacts, mail, bookmarks, etc. See this link on how to fix it (thanks Tinman):

Koolhand,
You're right..i'm having the same issue too with certain apps. Some will install just fine, others will crash.

ok, so that confirms the installer jailbreak also has contact syncing issues.

Uninstal then and re-install them. It should work. Also, please try to create a new contact in your iPhone and sync it with itunes to see if it works and report to us. thanks

Try with uninstalling and reinstalling a couple apps and see if it works. If it does, do the same for all your apps.

Yes. Use SSH or Mobile Finder and go to .../Library/Installer and delete LocalPackages.plist. This will cause Installer to "forget" the apps it mistakingly thinks are already installed.

Were you already activated out of curiosity? I didn't have to create the symlinks as it turned out. I think the synch issues are primarily related to those phones that aren't activated.

I did this on a friend's phone that's on another carrier. So I think that's why I had to do the symlinks. Upon further review, I'm not sure if I would really recommend MMI's Installer SoftUpgrade...I'm having issues with installing certain apps. Some will install just fine. Others like Apollo will just crash. I know koolhand is having the same issues...anyone else?

Check how much space is available on the OS partition. If your Installer is crashing when it goes to do the last part of the install process, or your apps are only "half" installing, you may be out of room.

I used the latest version of BossTool to symlink my apps, ringtones and wallpapers to my Media partition. I've recovered about 26 megs in doing so, and from what I've read is about average.

You know, I thought that space might be the issue too, so I tried installing BossTools' symlink fix, but was another one of those apps that would crash after installing. Now that I think about it, I could have just done it using Terminal. Oh well. Strangely, things like NES and PocketGuitar install fine. It just seemed hit or miss as to which apps would install...I'm sure there's a reason, but I'm too impatient. :tounge: I've already restored and trying something else.

The reason those installed is because you weren't out of space yet :O

Try deleting them, and then installing BossTool :P

I know this for a FACT because installed THE SAME TWO APPLICATIONS without a hitch, its everything after that which gave me problems... haha

I could have sworn I installed NES after attempting BossTool, but I not 100% certain. (All this installing/uninstalling is making me dizzy). Well it's too late to try the symlink now, as I am trying a different jailbreak method. But perhaps koolhand can see if that fixes the problem. As always, thanks for the input x666x!

Yeah; isn't it ironic that a site named "modmyiphone" is near impossible to navigate with an iPhone?

I was browsing the site earlier today when I was doing the jailbreak, and it is awful. Going form page to page within a thread is horrible.
