Apparently it involves a file that is a combined 1.12 and 1.13. Interesting.

Release is from Nate True, creator iBrickr, and all-around iPhone super developer / hacker - I trust it / him

1st step in process is you need to start with a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone - so no, unless you do the downgrade ...

I cant do anything with my phone right now. I have AppSnapp that isnt working, and I have no idea where to find another installer. Any advice?

So, all my previously installed aps and ringtones will remain intact, I take it?
Probably not. This version of the firmware does not allow all apps to run as root user (and have full privileges / access to everything) as previous firmwares did. So many apps will need some re-writing in order to work ...

Worthwhile then. Process did not succeed for me first time. Got all the way through iBrickr's portion of things, ran the 113 Soft Upgrade via Installer which is supposed to reboot with a lovely 113 jailbroken phone, but it rebooted in recovery mode and iBrickr fails to see it ...

just one thing. will customize work?
I am going to wait a day or so, to see how it all pans out. I can see problems with 3rd party apps def not going to work to with 1.1.3
If you are at 1.1.3 now, when you go down to 1.1.1 you will lose your contact and data because the backup files will not work with the other firmware, so you need to secure all that data on your hard drive. Don't worry about movies songs etc, those will back to the iPhone when you sync, just the data you lose.
I am at 1.1.3 so I wait. I bet TinMan waits to, why try to go there if it fails then it restores you and you lose everything to start over.

I'm thinking about it but am holding off due to reports like this:
"NateTrue has recently leaked a v1.1.3 Jailbreak without the Dev-Team's permission, getting himself kicked off the team. Against our wishes, he's included both files belonging to Apple and patches which contain copyrighted information by Apple, making his personal release illegal and unethical. This is directly contrary to the spirit of true hacking, honorable competition, and sharing of knowledge. He's a disgrace to developers everywhere. I'd like to strongly advise against using his system for upgrading, and make it known that the rest of the dev team does not support software piracy or copyright infringement. The method the Dev Team was/is planning on releasing allows you to perform the jailbreak without violating federal law."
And this from TUAW:
"NerveGas asked me to mention that this release is not canon and distributed against his wishes and against the wishes of some of the dev/elite team. From what I understand, the dev team was behind this release until shortly before Nate took it live. NerveGas's copyright concerns divided the team, splitting opinions on whether it should go live just at the wire."
I still have faith in Nate though, so might just give it a try!

Man, what a mess!! The in-fighting is intriguing as hell though, tbh!! I just don't see the point of this "jailbreak" assuming it's true most third pty apps won't work. I personally don't care about the 1.1.3 features, so I'll be holding out until the Dev Team has an "official" release...assuming we'll be able to distinguish who the dev team actually is after the dust has settled
TinMan, from what I know you cannot jailbreak a 1.1.2 obt phone from 1.1.3
I know you have the week 26 phone so you can go back and forth from 1.1.3 to 1.1.1 but my fear is for those who are 1.1.2 OBT jailbroken now, if they try to go to 1.1.3 and it fails and you know that will happen to many, the phone restores to 1.1.3 and they will be stuck there.
Also backup your contact data (not in iTunes) because 1.1.3 data connot be used in other firmware. No problem with the music, media etc.

No, 1.1.3. Debating whether to bother with time-consuming downgrade process in order to try again, or await method that will work straight from 113. Will work that out later as it will require bigger block of time and my dog is looking at me like he's gonna piss on the floor any moment if I keep dicking with the iPhone :laugh2:

With Nate's new iBrickr that won't be an issue since it checks first to make sure you are OK to jailbreak. Shouldn't let you through with a bl 4.6 iPhone.
In fact this is a good way to check to make sure your bl version is OK. The check happens so early in the jailbreak process that you have plenty of chances to back out.

I've read on MMI that yes, you do have to go thru installer and actually uninstall them, THEN reinstall them.
This does not guarantee they'll work once installed however.
Maybe iphoneluvver can cobble together a list of applications that they've had luck with. I've not taken the 1.1.3 plunge yet myself.

Did you reset your iPhone?
I read somewhere that after the JB you should restart your iphone if the maps "locate me" feature doesn't work.
Additionally, I read that there are some extra steps involved to get it to work for those who have unlocked their basebands, so its confirmed that the maps wont work correctly for those who have unlocked unless they go through a few more hoops. The same article (on tuaw) mentioned that the maps and such should work just for for existing AT&T customers who aren't unlocked and upgrade.
Basically you have to either JB then upgrade or upgrade then JB depending on what you're after. Head over to tuaw for the deets.

It seems that if u have a jailbroken only 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 and are on att... to upgrade to 1.1.3 in order to get the new bootloader first... as the new google features only work with the new bootloader..
Then downgrade to 1.1.1 and jailbreak the old fashioned way using wifi and jailbreakme.com....
Then use the new 1.1.3 Jailbreak....

Look in TUAW or modmyiphone for the guide to downgrade to 1.1.2. Notice you'll have no phone functionality under 1.1.2.
Then follow any guide to jailbreak 1.1.2.
Then do the 1.1.3 jailbreak.
After the above is done, from what I heard you should have a 1.1.3 working phone and jailbroken. Locked of course, but you have no other choices right now.
ok, i had 1.1.1 upgrade it to 1.1.2 then downgraded it back to 1.1.1 to JB then upgraded to 1.1.2.

I downloaded this and click the run this thing.
http://devices.natetrue.com/iphone/jb113.dmg
From there I clicked enter and downloaded the firmware. From there it said it worked and to downgrade the app on installer. From there it took a few mins to install and now I am working fine, everything works but Google Maps locate and Locate Me works better anyways.

I must be an idiot. I have installer on my now jailbroken 1.1.3 phone, but I can't find the BSD subsystem in the installer app. Do you know what source it's under?
If I can't get it there, is it possible to SSH to my phone without the BSD subsystem? I didn't think it was. . .

Well, what I just did was update to 1.1.3 so I have the updated baseband. Then I'm gonna downgrade to 1.1.1 and jailbreak it then use the 1.1.3 jailbreak to get back to 1.1.3.
In the process right now.

so i have a 1.1.1 OTB phone and is currently jailbroken on 1.1.2. Can I just regularly upgrade to 1.1.3 to get the baseband without any problems? Then downgrade to 1.1.1, jailbreak, update/jailbreak to 1.1.2, then update/jailbreak 1.1.3? Seems like a lot of work but would be worth it if the google locations worked.
has anyone done this? I wanna do it the "right way."
or instead of going through the downgrading is there a way to just upgrade/jailbreak 1.1.3 then but the baseband on it? thanks.

This seemed to get Google Maps locate function to work (I have not updated my BB yet):
1.) Install LocateMe via Installer (might have to uninstall first, if it was previously installed before jailbreaking 1.1.3).
2.) Run LocateMe and have it locate you in Google Maps.
3.) While still in Maps tap the locate icon.
Worked for me. Hope it wasn't just a coincidence.

Tinman, Do you have to use that two step method every time or just one time to "wake up" the locate function in Google Maps? Basically, after doing the steps above one time will the locate option work in the maps every time after that without using the LocateMe program each time?

In the brief time I've had to test it it seems to stop working after a reboot (off/on cycle). Another run through LocateMe does "wake it up" again though. Weird. And by working in Google Maps I mean with the accuracy circle and everything.
Will see if it stops working during a springboard relaunch and airplane mode next...
Edit: A few new details.
1.) I am able to use both LocateMe or Navizon in order to prod Google Maps to work.
2.) Maps still work after a springboard restart (e.g., after installing a new app via Installer).
3.) Maps stop working when Airplane mode is turned on, then off.
4.) Maps is not merely using the coordinates from LocateMe/Navizon, it calculates location on its own. I was able to observe this as sometimes the LocateMe/Navizon push-pin is outside Google Maps' accuracy circle.

I didn't lose a thing. iTunes didn't even burp, or ask me to use a backup file (but iTunes does show me as being on 1.1.3). Sync works fine.
There are of course files I need to delete, but now that I have SSH back that'll be a breeze.

Yes, install Term-vt100, navigate to /var/root/Library/Installer and delete or rename LocalPackages.plist.
This will allow you reinstall everything without needing to do the uninstall dance first.

No, it just tricks Installer into thinking nothing is installed. I find this easier anyway that having to uninstall then reinstall each app.
There's also an OpenSSH "fix" on Installer meant to deal with exactly this situation.

Upgraded and JB to 1.1.2 about a month ago.

Very interesting, so even with a flashed 1.1.3 baseband, you're still having Locate Me issues. I had thought that upgrading to 1.1.3, then back down (baseband stays on 1.1.3 firmware) to jailbreak, followed by goin back to 1.1.3 was supposed to the the "golden ticket" for this JB.
Thanks for posting, looks like I'll be doing more thumb twiddling until I hear more about NervGas' JB.

Hi,
I have a 1.1.1 iPhone which I JB and upgraded to 1.1.2 and then JB again (wen through the process of OktoPrep etc etc). Then ran AnySim1.2.u and unlocked it. Works fine. Myquestion
1. Is it worthwhile to upgrade to 1.1.3 at all? 1.1.2 upgrade made my phone faster and was worth the trouble. But, is 1.1.3 upgrade worth it?
2. If I upgrade to 1.1.3, I am sure that the phone will become unJailbroken again, but will it at least remain Unlocked so that I can use my current SIM card from India-Airtel?
3. Is there a clear step by step process like the one that has been created by Wildonrio (I think) for upgrading to 1.1.3 please?

Hi,
Before I jump in to upgrade my JB 1.1.2 to the latest JB 1.1.3, is there any method of 'backing up' the entire iPhone.....like a Norton Ghost image for a Windows disk, and save it somewhere...so that in case something goes wrong, I could load back the 'image' to the iPhone and recover in a Jiffy? Is this possible at all? On a Windows smart phone (I had iMate Jam-in) I used to use SPBPlus to backup the entire image of the smart Phone to a single file and could recover everything including the O/S, installed programs and data from that image.
Is anything like this possible with iPhone please?

No he's not. OTB 1.1.3 can be jailbroken, just not unlocked.
You just have to downgrade first. While downgraded you won't be able to use phone features but that's no biggie cause it's only temporary. As soon as 1.1.3 jailbreak is complete the phone will work just fine. And of course it's reversible.
This is from Nate's FAQ:
-------------------------------------------------------
The iPhone can-I-upgrade list
1.0.0 to 1.0.2 phone: You must upgrade to 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 before continuing. If your phone has been unlocked (modified to work with a non-AT&T carrier) with anything other than iPhone SIM Free, you will not be able to proceed without re-locking your phone by upgrading to 1.1.3. Otherwise you're clear.
1.1.1 phone, unmodified: You need to head to "jailbreakme.com" to install Installer.app on your phone. After that you can perform the 1.1.3 soft upgrade.
1.1.1 phone, with Installer.app: You're clear to do the upgrade.
1.1.2 phone, unmodified: You need to do a downgrade to 1.1.1. Then go to 1.1.1 unmodified instructions.
1.1.2 phone, modified through Oktoprep and jailbreak.jar: You're clear to upgrade.
1.1.3 phone, unmodified: You need to downgrade to 1.1.1 first. Then go to 1.1.1 unmodified instructions.
-------------------------------------------------------
http://cre.ations.net/blog/post/the-113-soft-upgrade-jailbreak-faq
The only thing I would add is don't jailbreak 1.1.3 from 1.1.1. Go ahead and keep going and jb 1.1.2 too. Then jb 1.1.3 using Nate's or the dev team jb solution. Again, this is for jb only, not unlock.
