Does anyone else find it anoying that in some peoples signatures in these forums they brag about what gadgets they have? If you're one of these "people" please stop being so hot on yourself. No one cares that you have a MacBook pro or an 80 gig iPod or whatever. I think its great that there are people that love technology. Me being one of them. However, if you need your ego stroked, do that on your own time.

I don't see it as bragging at all.. I see it as folks letting others know what they have and might be able to assist someone with something they themselves might own.

If I had questions for a certain product, I'd probably trust someone who has the same thing, then someone who may not have a clue what I'm asking and fubar my system...

Yes IphoneTony, I think I am one of the people the OP was talking about, (not personally) but in reference to my type of signature. The OP calls it bragging. I call it, loving electronic gadgets. Gadgets in the default signature, is an accepted practice on basically every forum of this type. I'm not bothered by the OP's comments, just shows, he or she had nothing better to do tonight that B**ch about something trivial..Mark

So I'm gonna say it, and I don't care. Mark/iPhonian - you come off as one ****y, holier than thou person. I couldn't care less what you own. Great job. If you're going to make a list if all the crap that you own that you can plug into an outlet - that's not needed. If you put items that you own that would help members identify you for help - that's another thing. Regardless of your opinion, this isn't a forum to list off all of your toys. It's to discuss the iPhone and to help others with questions.

Now I am sure you'll write me off as jealous and there's probably not a lot I could say to convince you otherwise - but I'm not jealous. I am thankful for what I have and work hard for the things I need and want. I'm sure just like you do too.

I agree that it takes up a lot of space. Why not post a link to your Myspace or a Web page that list these items. You could title it "My Fav Toys" or such.

Trust me, as an IT guy I can list hundreds of things here, but just picked the first things that came to mind, including some totally off the wall stuff. Besides, we are limited to 500 characters in our sigs. That is the limit, no formatting rules about how they should be listed. A comma and a space take up one more character than a carriage return, go figure.

BTW, the iPhone is the very first Apple product I have ever owned. But I have owned more cell phones than the average person and have access to lots more stuff because I work in IT testing and product development. That doesn't mean I need to list it all.

I only turn signatures on when I'm viewing from a PC, though. As the novelty wore off, I realized the iPhone scrolling took too long and too much effort. I'd much rather do it with a button or a gesture like flick and hold (like some laptops have for the sides of their touchpads, you slide from the middle and hold it in the top or bottom corner to keep scrolling)

lol - here's a 180 for you, Mark. Your signature was the signature that came to mind w/this thread. I have to apologize to you. Your sig used to be annoying as all hell. You fixed it, b/c someone complained. Now it's not obnoxious as it was before, in fact, it's more condensed than some others'. So I digress w/the idea that

1. put what you want in you signature, I don't care
2. at least keep it condensed, so I don't have to scroll like a kid on crack to get to the bottom of a page

I see it as not bragging, just flat out annoying. When navigating a site, especially on my iPhone, its super inconvienent to have to navigate extra pages because people want to list everything they've aquired. I've got no problem with people being proud with their possessions. Isn't that why we work hard? Its just the pain in the butt thing that gets on my nerves. I've made some WONDERFUL friends that I email outside of here on a regular basis and I value those friends as if they were my neighbors.

Yes we banter and laugh, carry on and get goofy. But will all the sadness in the world today and the fighting going on, is this ONE place on the forum really going to make you leave? We can't control EVERY single person that posts, but if trying to turn a negative into humor or a positive then I think we've all done wonderfully. And yet I'm so sorry for you feeling you can't be a part of that. No one is hurting anyone, no one has said anything "ugly" or belittling of another. If someone had, Chris would have taken care of it. But this is entertainment, this ONE posting on the ENTIRE forum... I think you're thinking irrationally my friend and I'm sad to see you go. However if your mind is made up, I wish you well and I hope you continue to enjoy the things in your life that matter to you and your family. And maybe one day you'll realize that we do have fun, we do get serious, we do help alot of folks, and we do making some outstanding friendships... so please explain to me WHY this is such a bad thing....

I agree. I wish iPhonian would have just maybe "took a break" for a couple weeks before going to such extremes. I don't know whether he was embarrassed because the post was kind of directed towards him and a few others, or he is just fed up because the threads here are straying from iPhone related information. It has been a little slow here lately. I truly hope that he reconsiders, takes a little break from this place, and comes back. Now when I get my camera I can't have him help me. Thanks OP!

Being on a Scuba diving and a Glock forum, most users post what pertains to each site. Like on the Glock forum, most guys will list their guns. On the scuba site, a lot of users will post their regs, bcd's, and other general equipment.

I kind of helps develop a personality portrait of each user in a pretty undefined(unless you are familiar with one's posts and trends) environment such as an internet forum.

Well, in all honesty I didn't think the signatures were that bad, especially when they were considerately turned into rows of text rather than columns. On other tech forums its common to see signatures detailing all the modifications made to their devices, all the accessories, and even what it's got under the hood. I find this no different in that respect, because we're basically on a tech/gadget site.

This reminds me of an old Mr.Show skit where a guy comes out saying he's smarter than you because he makes more money than you and thats the way the world works so deal with it... lol

I'm glad you don't care about signatures, but what if it was bashing something that you did hold dear? That little signature addition was kind of defensive in my opinion. I mean iPhonian did get called out by a newcomer. So what if the OP looked more like the following???

Does anyone else find it anoying when people stop posting at a certain number and start a new screen name to save their certain number for a special occasion? If you're one of these "people" please stop creating more usernames that just add to the already large list of screen names, and just keep your original one. No one cares that you have 998 posts or a second screen name or whatever. I think its great that there are people that love having 998 posts or second screen names. Me being one of them. You may not find the preceding paragraph aggressive toward you right now because it is in the middle of a different thread. But what if you were just checking the boards and stumbled across a post like that? Not calling you by name but pointing a finger toward you. I think iPhonian get defensive and added the little "extra" comment in his sig. Honestly, someone who contributes so much to this forum community should never have to defend themselves.

Heh, c'mon it was a long signature, at least own up to that. I didn't care what it said, but what annoyed me about it was having to scroll farther down to get to the next post. Theres usually forum guidelines, or preset rules in place to keep things like this from happening, but not in this case. To scroll down two pages on my iphone for a one line post becomes laborious in a thread that I'm trying to follow.

But, I learned to live with it, and one day the list was changed to rows. I have been happy until the red letters kept getting bigger, and now I'm not sure if this is just an attempt to defend yourself, or a tantrum.
