I just want to make sure I am 100% clear on this. You did that 4 step method and added a new ringtone since the update. You then sync'd a few times and all remained the same?

I just want to make sure people have confirmed adding new tones to 1.1.3 and doing a few syncs before I jump on the 1.1.3 bandwagon. I would be beyond pissed if I did the update (I use iToner now which I understand does not work on 1.1.3) to find out I loose my tones and cannot add them back via the workaround.

I'll completely look at it when I get off work but all the ringtones I had stayed on. I will completely test when I get off.

I can 100% confirm that the following still works:

- Your ringtones that you made in 7.5 / 1.1.2 still work on your iPhone
- You can still make ringtones in 7.6 / 1.1.3 by converting the desired track to .wav, importing it into Windows Movie Maker, cutting down the sound to 30 seconds, export that project's .wma, convert it to .aac via iTunes, rename the filename from .m4a to .m4r, and finally drag it to iTune's 'Ringtones' folder, and it will sync just fine to the iPhone just like before. So yes, you can still create custom ringtones to your heart's desire.

I'm running iTunes 7.6, iPhone 1.1.3, and Windows Vista Ultimate.

Very good info. Maybe today I will install the new update. It is just sitting on my computer. I guess it would be a good idea to start out with the 7.5/1.1.2 setup and make the tones and add them to the ringtone tab. After I do the upgrade at least I know those 15 tones will still exist.

Thanks!!!

If you made any ringtones with iPhoneringtonemaker, they do not work now.

And here is my tut for Free ringtones:

1. Find a song you want to use as a ringtone.
2. Use whatever program you use to "clip" a section under 30 seconds long.(Audacity is a Freeware Program)
3. Double click the shortened file and it will go into the "Music" section of iTunes and it will start to play.
4. Right click on the file and choose the "Convert to AAC" from the drop down menu.
5. You will now have two of the same files in the iTunes Music Playlist.
6. Right click on one of the two and choose "show in (to locate the file) explorer."
7. Right click on the song with the m4a to m4r extension. You can delete the other one from that folder. If you don't see the file extension then you need to open your Explorer (myComputer) go to tools/folder options/view then go and make sure you have un-checked next to "Hide extentions for known file types".
8. Change the extension from m4a to m4r.
9 Go to iTunes and delete BOTH of the files from the playlist. Just make sure you click on "keep files."
10. Now go back to the folder you have the m4r file and double click it. It should go into the "ringtone folder" of iTunes.
11. Connect your iPhone, click on the "ringtone" tab and the song you need will be on the list. Check the check box and press the apply button lower right

I'm having a problem. I leave my phone on the ringtones screen when I sync.
After the sync is done, I see the custom song list for a second then it disapears.
If I yank the phone off the dock just as the phone is finished syncing the custom ringtones stay. WTF?
Has anyone else had this problem?

You do have it set so that when you sync it will sync the ringtones, right? I know that is a stupid quset but sometimes we overlook things like this. :laugh2:

yeah this no longer works for me either. I sync it to my phone and according to iTunes the ringtone is on my phone. But when I go to find it on my phone it isn't there. Any help people? Thanks in advance.

Make sure it's under 30 seconds?
And converted to .aac before changing the filename to m4r, right?

It worked fine for me today. I created the ringtone as an .mp3, imported it to iTunes, converted to AAC, renamed as .m4r, synced the phone and voila! I had a new custom ringtone in 1.1.3. :)

It still works fine. Somewhere you guys are leaving off a step. I would bet you have something checked wrong in your iphone sync tabs for ringtones.

Or maybe the clip is larger than 30 seconds. I have two that are about a minute and they show up in iTunes ringtones but they don't get added to the iPhone when I sync. All the other ringtones 31 seconds or less are added. :) That would be my guess.

say if i try to load 3 ringtones to phone, the phone will recognize that there's 3 custom tones but they're all the same one. they each work doing just one on the phone at a time but i can't get all 3 or even 2 on there, suggestions?

This method worked for me to after upgrading to 1.1.3. I have about 5 custom ringtones on my phone now. I don't know what the deal is but mine also once in awhile will not sync my ringtones, even the one I bought from itunes. I also had my screen on my sounds and as soon as I saw the ringtones were on there I pulled the plug real quick at the end of the sync if not it would try to sync again and take the ringtones off. I thought it was just my iphone but after reading it here I guess its a common problem. But now they are all there.
Just a tip:
I did have a problem with the name of one of my ringtones, it had a semi-colon symbol in it and for some reason itunes didn't like any symbols (or numbers) in the ringtone name. As soon as I renamed the song it synced to the iphone.

I am having some issues with my self made ring tones. Currently I have 4 ring tones on the phone, lets call them a,b,c, and d. When I try to put ring tone e and f on from a itunes perspective it look like it works. But when I look at mt ring tone list on the phone it will have ring tone d listed 3 time and will not see ring tones e and f. Anyone have suggestions on how to fix?

I am using a non hacked iPhone FW 1.1.3. I have tried to do a restore as well.

I'm so happy that I spent the 10-15 bucks on the ringtonemaker months ago, my ringtones are crackin' as long as I want, and even with a loudness boost option now.
