Which format is the best to convert to using itunes. because as it stands right now, about 1,000 songs fill my iphone. Which is a better format and which takes up less space, using the choices itunes gives.

i have another question, when trying to convert i always end up getting an error message saying it cant convert a song. and then i have to start the process all over, is there anyway around this?
