Iphone stereo headset won't work with Ipod?

Anyone know why the stock iphone headphones buttons will not work with an Ipod Nano?

I bought some Duo's and gave the stock ones to my brother inlaw but it won't allow him to pause or skip to the next song.

That's not a feature of the Touch. It was never designed to operate with the "clicker" that works for the iPhone.

ah thats a bummer... I'm surprised it doesn't work with the touch at least.. I can see it not working with all the other ipods. The clicker is a nice feature, they need to build that into all the other ipods!!
