View Full Version : Typing "you're" on iPhone.

For some reason when I'm typing "you're" on the iPhone it says I typed "yourr." No matter what it won't let me hit that last "e", it always says I hit the "r" twice. Does this happen to anyone else? (Atleast auto-correct knows I'm trying to type "you're")

If you slide your finger around, you'll also notice there are several other keys that are "not allowed" after typing "your" (A, T, E, D, and others...) It's a bug I guess, there are other oddities with the typing interface, too. But, like you said at least the auto-correct knows what's up.

AHH! I noticed this when I first got the phone and it drove me crazy for the longest time. I would get yourr quite a bit and it angered me to know end. I actually kind of forgot about it actually, but now that it's back on my mind, I'm sure I'll notice it more.

No.

Looks like its kicked in 1.1.2.

I'm on 1.1.2 also. My phone's neither unlocked nor jailbroken.

Ah yeah, I'm still on 1.0.2 but I could see it being fixed in 1.1.2.

and I am.

When you select the e, if you even twich your finger in the slightest of ways it realizes you're not as stupid as it thinks you are and finally realizes that we all have a spelling capability past that of a second graders, and lets up. And eventually it stops even trying. It learns.

I'm still on 1.0.2.

all that's left for me to ask is.... Why?? Its mad unstable.

no, it happens consistently to me on my stock 1.1.2 phone.

How do you come to this conclusion that 1.0.2 is unstable ?

Mine has been perfect unlocked and jailed,I am not upgrading till I get a good reason to.

its not a conclusion that I draw out of thin air.

I have been with my iPhone on 1.0.2, 1.1.1, and 1.1.2.

1.1.1 is easiest to hack but 1.1.2 is worth the extra 15 minutes to jailbreak

They are faster than 1.0.2, and don't crash as much.

That is interesting because I just tried it on mine and it did not do it.

That is interesting because it does not do it on my stock 1.1.2 - tried it several times.

I just got used to modding on the 1.0.2 and really didn't like the 1.1.2 update for some reason plus I had some issues when I was trying to restore after an initial failed attempt at a Jailbreak. I'm probably going to give it another try soon, but we'll see what happens at MacWorld.

If I type the word including the apostrophe, it lets me type an e at the end. If I type the word skipping the apostrophe, it puts an r there when I hit the e, but then autocorrects to you're with the apostrophe. So who cares? It works and I don't have to switch screens to type the apostrophe.

I wish I could find a similar shortcut to typing we're tho.

Keep in mind the keyboard's "tap zones" dynamically change based on what you type. IIRC the idea is to shrink letters you aren't likely to need and expand those more likely to be needed. Supposed to help typing, and of course auto-correct comes in for the cleanup.

It's mentioned about halfway through the following video:
http://www.apple.com/iphone/gettingstarted/keyboard.html

An example:

http://www.ctaz.com/%7Emlynch/x/tapzone2.png

As you can see the iPhone thinks you won't need letters R and W, so expands E's tap zone and covers them. You would have trouble typing, say, the URL timroot.net.

This really bugged me when I first got the iPhone. I didn't mention it because I thought I had some sort of typing problem.

1.1.3 out of the box, at least I don't remember going thru an upgrade. Anyway, I've tried different apps (note, mail), with no issue.

It makes me happy to know that at least some people in the world know the difference between "your" and "you're". Music to my eyes.

how are you on 1.1.3? I'm assuming that was a typo...

And it happens to me, I'm stock 1.1.2, and even if I reset the keyboard dictionary, it still happens.

When someone uses "there/their/they're" or "your/you're" wrong, I'll sometimes stop reading right there.

Also remember that if the iPhone goes to autocorrect something and you tap ON the autocorrection, it remembers that you didn't want it autocorrected for next time.

So if you had typed "you'rr" in the past, and it offered "you're" and you tapped on it instead of the spacebar or punctuation, it will remember that.

I guess Apple does not read these forums because this simple fix is not in 1.1.3 !!

I just checked all three iPhones in my house and when you type youre, it will not let you type in the last letter..... autocorrect does it for you but you cannot physically type it yourself without autocorrect... at least i can't
