Hey All,
I downloaded Iphone ringtonemaker and so far so good. The main reason I got it though was to make a ringtone off of a DVD. That's where I have trouble. I have the DVD Decryter, and Videora Converter(which also work fine), but I can't seem to change the format of the audio file so I can clip from it.
Any help would be great!

If your phone is 1.1.2 you can do it for free then you don't need ringtonemaker, you can do it faster and easier thru iTunes.
How long is the clip going to be? 30 seconds?
You could just record the audio when playing the dvd. You can also use a freeware called audacity.
1. Find a song you want to use as a ringtone.
2. Use whatever program you use to "clip" a section under 30 seconds long.(Audacity is a Freeware Program)
3. Double click the shortened file and it will go into the "Music" section of iTunes and it will start to play.
4. Right click on the file and choose the "Convert to AAC" from the drop down menu.
5. You will now have two of the same files in the iTunes Music Playlist.
6. Right click on one of the two and choose "show in (to locate the file) explorer."
7. Right click on the song with the m4a to m4r extension. You can delete the other one from that folder. If you don't see the file extension then you need to open your Explorer (myComputer) go to tools/folder options/view then go and make sure you have un-checked next to "Hide extentions for known file types".
8. Change the extension from m4a to m4r.
9 Go to iTunes and delete BOTH of the files from the playlist. Just make sure you click on "keep files."
10. Now go back to the folder you have the m4r file and double click it. It should go into the "ringtone folder" of iTunes.
11. Connect your iPhone, click on the "ringtone" tab and the song you need will be on the list. Check the check box and press the apply button lower right

Yea, It's a 1.1.2. The clip is the theme from the cartoon "The Tick" so it is about 30 sec long.
How could you do it through ITunes? I'm still learning!
Thanks

Take your time and follow KNK's instructions. I followed the same about 2 weeks ago. It was a snap. Good luck and enjoy.

OK, Every time I have Audacity or any other sound grabbing program going the same time I play the DVD, the speed of the DVD slows down and I can't get anything. :frown:

Whats your computer and operating system.
Do you have a standalone DVD machine, you could connect the audio output of that into the computer and copy.
What is the specific song that you are tryinhg to capture, if it is a movie then there may already be a soundtrack available in iTunes.

I'm using my Sharp Actius RD10(2.8 Ghz) with XP. I am trying to capture the theme from "The Tick" cartoon show. It is not available on Itunes, I can find copies of it on the net, but all the recordings are terrible.
I have a portable DVD player I could try hooking that up.
Thanks

Well use the portable DVD. Your computer should be fast enough with the XP, so I don't know

you can try something like this software (http://www.imtoo.com/dvd-audio-ripper.html?trace_code=gadss). There are others... just use google.
