Ensure you should a charger that uses the 5V USB type. Dangerous it would be to charge using firewire.
I've always loved Yoda.
To be on the safe side use a charger that plugs into a USB port. I use car and home chargers that have the USB plug to ensure that I am using 5V.

My Nano charger is USB and says 5V on the AC plug part. So that should be OK to use, right?

Yes, any iPod charger that is 5V will work with your iPhone without damaging it, just make sure you don't use the firewire cable to charge it. I think that puts out 12V which could really harm your phone.
