Nokia has actually filed some patents for a new s60 device.
Here.. Take a look
www.unwiredview.com/2008/01/08/first-glimpse-inside-nokia-s60-touch-going-beyond-multi-touch/
If nokia actually manages to put all of this into a nice looking package...
Ill see you later, apple...
Sorry, the link does not work for me.

Touch without Touching!! I like the concept a lot- it takes what Apple has done and expands it muchhhhhhhh further.
Thanks for the link.
Looks like you will need to know sign language to operate that, just imagine doing that in the car.

until nokia can develop there own Internet browser then apple still has the upper hand. I have seen lots of the iPhone killer but fall short on the browser. Plus in the future the next iPhones would have more bells and whisles.

In my opinion, nothing beats the iPhone. Sure it can probably do all kind of things the iPhone does but I don't need a phone to do all that. I had a Treo 650 that I never used all the features on. All these cell phone manufacturers have Apple to thank for putting some fire to their rears.

maybe so
But nokia is part of the open handset alliance
So it will be easy to develop for it.

It does seem like the touch controls are a bit cumbersome, but I'm sure the iPhone's controls took most people a bit of getting used to.

just like nothing beat the nokia 3650 until it got old, huh?

If and when it's available I'll be glad to look at it.
Until then -- <shrug>
the nokia phone looks very cool and has some interesting features but I won't give up on the iPhone.

I would take a look at it, but looks like Nokia is trying too hard to top the iphone. As was stated I hate to think about driving and using that thing. Looks complicated enough on it's own.

I love the fact that the Cell phone industry is working so hard to build a better Device for me (or my money that is).
All this Nokia stuff is just ideas, just sketches, if they were going to make it they would not disclose these concepts, which means its not going to be made.
Even if they do build it and ship it in 6 months, when it comes out, apple will be releasing something better which then counters this sign language device.

Could you please tell me what nokias you've owned? And if they were crippled by Cingular?
And how many times they were run over by a car?

The iPhone touchterface is intuitive. That Nokia thing looks like you would need a class to be proficient in just using it, IMO. Like KNK said, it is still just sketches anyway. Who knows if it will actually work.

Yep Nokia is definitely finland POS. Plastic tinkertoys, can't stand them, all the way from the candybars to the n95's and e62's. Pure crap. Nokia is a Jokia.

I'll bet you mad money that if I sent you my last phone (a nokia 6151) with the nokia logos removed and something else, oh I don't know, samsung or sonyericsson instead on it, you will not ever say anything bad about nokia again.

Trust me. I would not even be the slightest bit fond of the 6151. Not really a fan of SE or Samsung either but at least their not Nokia.:tounge: I mostly just like Apple(iphone), Motorola(V8,Q9 etc.), and LG(Prada,Viewty etc.).

Why else would I say "trust me". I had to check it out. The idea of an appealing Nokia phone was just too must to resist.

yeah maybe the 6151 isn't the best example.
But try the nokia 5710
I despise motorolas because they are mad stupid. It can't play music and do other things at the same time? What? Oh well then at least it supports 1GB+ microsd cards, right? No? The zoom is x2 x4 only?? WHAT!!!?
A while ago I used to have a samsung r225m. I threw it out of a tenth floor window. I bought a 6101, threw it out of 10th floor window too.(again, intentionally) got a 6151, and now I have iPhone, with 6151 as a portable stereo - it is MAD loud.
My dad used to have a blackberry 7210 now he has a n95 (it is an ugly phone.)
my mom used to have a samsung e315. She's got a nokia 5610 (not so bad)
my brother had a rizr.. Trapped for a year with that POS. I pity him.
I don't care much for anything that has the brand of motorola or lg on it. Because I actually know people who own (ed) models that were high end.

Both Motorola phones I listed can play music and perform other functions simultaneously. The V8 comes with 2GB built in, the Q9 supports up to 32GB via micro sd cards. And both support 4x zoom. So as you can see Motorola has come along way since you last checked.
The 5710 does look somewhat interesting but I just can't dig the form factor.

see, THIS is a company trying something different. Will it top the iphone? who knows... it has potential, though.

Interesting, but I don't think this will really catch on. It's not even forward thinking, IMAO. I simulated those finger gestures and discovered that with no surface to rest your fingers on while performing the gestures, they get tired rather quickly. But that's just me.

The combination of looks, interface and quality are gonna be hard to beat, plus after the SDK ppl are free to roam the iPhone range, who knows what awesome product the iPhone will become. I believe it'll be a while before anything comes around that can compete with the iPhone. IMO, of course.

Tried of this Nokia stuff. I had the Nokia 9500 before I got the Iphone. The Nokia is nowhere near the Iphone in capabilities. I have been there and done that and I aint going back.

What the hell? The iPhone has a better interface than, say, the N95 but it's in no way a better phone. As for browsers, Nokia will use its own one or Opera.
Interesting to see what comes of this.

Interesting idea but I wouldn't expect this to hit the market anytime too soon. I don't think Apple much to worry about in the near term.

There was a deaf passenger and her driver both shot by gang members in Phoenix a year ago, or so, because the gang members that pulled up next to them thought she was flashing them gang hand signals from an opposing gang. I can just see that trend happening with the hand gestures on the Nokia phone. "AP NEWS: 28 year old shot while texting good morning to her husband using the new Nokia phone".
themanofthedark
01-24-2008, 06:19 AM
hahahahahah I can see that happening...
but if these gestures were multitouch, rather than 3-d, it would be sooooooo much better.

How many times do we see these leaked proto-types leaked on line, eveyone scammers about rallying how great it will be, only to find a year later how disappointed they are. By the time this comes out the sdk and the newer iPhone won't be anywhere near Nokia touching it.

There will be an iPhone killer with all the bells and whistles that people want, it's inevitable. But, it will still not be as cool, as refined and as sleek as the iPhone. Therefore it doesn't matter!

Umm, because if Nokia was so great we'd all be in a Nokia forum talking about how the Nokia needs to be careful because the iphone is coming.

What bothers you so much about it? Besides the thing being locked and having no flash/copy-paste, I don't see anything else wrong with it. Besides soon enough it will be unlocked for developers. I don't know what else you could want.

no mss is pretty bad and EXTREMELY irritating.... texting on it is pretty much a *****, the camera leaves a lot to be desired and the speakerphone sucks.
