I hope they're not coming out with something extraordinary and very expensive, as I will feel compelled to buy it.

I think the "there's something is the air" is a reference to the millions of iphones sold that have those toxins the enviromental group where so eloquent to mention. They probably going..."We told you!!!"

Why is the display on this phone jacked up? Look in the upper right
of the blue section. Are those icons (like a desktop)?

They look like quicktime files...

I wonder if those quicktime files mean we can start using our Iphizzies for file storage. That would be swell, just swell.

this iPhone is a giant display outside o2 stores in the UK that play videos of the iPhone. These are presumably run off a computer, which would explain the QuickTime files.

I figured as much; the displays on those are basically looped movies. But the display is a little jacked up. I woud't think it would work like that...

Maybe an "over the air software update..?"

Maybe an "over the air software update..?"

It wouldn't the first time that we have some kind of upgrade through a network-based trigger. Remember when the "send to web gallery" option mysteriously appeared out of nowhere.

I bet the song will be "Something In The Air" by T:2cool:hunderclap Newman..

I remember this. But this popped a different idea into my head. Could Apple brick phones using this ota update idea? It's not like we had a choice to upgrade and get send to web gallery update....

NO NO NO....this is a theme thing, something being presented on a grande scale, that will be so surprising.

Stevo is not going to be delievering something in a punishing way.

Think different. Think Apple.

I have the same feelings. But for the same reason, I look forward to Macworld every year. You can bet that if Steve introduces some shiny new thing, it'll be mine by next Saturday.

Ok - lemme break down what I said.

Back on 1.0.2 ( I think ) when iLife '08 came out, a feature was released that we could "send to gallery" from our iPhone. That send to gallery feature mysteriously appeared in what appeared to be an "over the air update" (ota). So basically Apple forced an update of sorts OTA to our phones.

So my question was "Could Apple force some OTA "update" that would brick phones/kill jailbreaking?"

Okay, I getcha ya now. Yes I remember the mac account gallery. I just don't feel that they will punish the housebreakers, they could have stopped it at 1.1.2 They are after the unLockers any sim crowd.

Now lets go bend our elbows awhile.:tounge:

Hopefully they've learned something from all the heaps of bad press and reaction they got over updates supposedly bricking phones in the past. That wouldn't be the great 'boom' sort of positive effect that Jobs usually generates.
Also, OTA updates sound pretty dodgy - not pretty if you lose connectivity in the middle of an update ...

True - it would suck if you got a disconnect in the middle of the "update", but I'm sure they could do something, if they REALLY wanted to.

Maybe so - but I think with all the beatings they took over this kinda stuff, they wouldn't be looking to highlight any of that. Hopefully they will be looking to talk up new 3rd party apps some ...

I could see an OTA update (of a large size at least) upsetting a few people especially if this caused Jailbroken/Unlocked phones to brick. Then again, would it be sent OTA on AT&T's network, or how would that work?

Just saw another take (http://blogs.zdnet.com/Apple/?p=1167) along OTA lines, but better sounding - saying maybe it's OTA software install, a la Installer - now that would be slick!

Global wifi, that's my guess....they will put giant white apples on top of every cell phone tower that will emit wifi connection for full-time wifi...and then everyone's batteries explode in their pockets...

I read this morning on Yahoo news that there is speculation that Apple will introduce a super slim lap top - about 1/2 the thickness of a MacBook. Apparently it will not have a hard drive but rather flash drives.

I am thinking maybe Wifi networking of iPhone/iPods like the Zune. It would be cool to be able to brows other people library on their iPhone. If you like a song they have just stream it to your phone with the option to buy off of iTunes. Maybe also include PC or Mac library's as well that are on the network.
