I think I just threw up a bit in my mouth. Might of been that lovely sound.:tounge:
God bless 'em for giving it a shot. LOL!
I never fail to chuckle when I see devices intended to mimic the iPhone but still look crude...and likely perform worse. There is still no credible iPhone "killer". Maybe someday ;)

Thus far Sprint was a lot better network-wise than my AT&T experience has been.

What would be the point for Samsung or any cell phone manufacturer to come up with something. No matter what they come up with, it'll be people claiming that its a copy kat.
I mean seriously, we are talking phones; there arent too many design changes that are going to seperate one from the other. In the end, they're all phones.
I think it would kill ya'll if someone did come out with something that would put the iPhone to shame.

That is the most foolish thing I've heard (read). Principle??? What principle did Samsung violate??? When the 1st camera phone came out and sold like crazy, all phone makers added a camera. When the 1st color screen phone came out and sold well, all phone makers went to color screens. When touch screens on phone's became popular, all phone makers added touch screens. When the first flat screen television came out and sold well, all television makers started selling flat screens. When vacum cleaners became bagless, all makers put out bagless vacum cleaners. When the first SUV sold well, all auto makers started selling SUV's. The point is not to be a copy cat, but to follow a trend that was pioneered by one maker, that the public is asking for and buying. We could also call this progression, in any given sector of business. Apple did not pioneer the cellphone, yet they saw a market and jumped in. Are you going to call them a copy cat??? Cos, I doubt Samsung is reverse engineering anything. The iPhone uses a touch screen, but the iPhone is NOT the 1st touch screen; so in essence, who did Apple copy kat from?
Whether it be cellphones or microwaves, every product s expected to evolve; not remain the same, regardless of whose making it.
Most of these iPhone threads, in conjunction to other phones, come off like the iPhone is the "be-all end-all" negating the fact that EVERY company grabs an idea from another and does something a little different with it.

Apart from Microsoft ripping off a mouse based GUI from Apple and then totally dominating the market. There are numerous other examples.

don't dare call me a fanboy. The iphone is the only apple product i own. I just believe that samsung has not done anything original here and does not deserve my money. that is MY principle. call it foolish if you want to, i don't care. i think it's foolish you buy every new phone on the market, but i'd never write that up, because it's all difference of lifestyles.

It's WAY more than JUST the touch screen, man. The icons, what software is apparently available, the general design, etc. It's so blatantly an iphone ripoff... they're just riding the coat-tails of the iphone market, which i think is lazy.

John,
I love you like a brother. I however, don't think we will get an unbiased opinion from a person using the screen name, MacManPro. :) You know I would never attack you. I just couldn't help, making this little joke. Come on John, you have to admit, the Samsung m800, does look pretty hot.
I was thinking, after all the discussion of what basic items Apple did not include on the iPhone. Samsung surely, would not make the same mistakes. Especially given the fact of how deeply entrenched, Samsung is in the cellphone market. Also, I am almost certain that the m800, will not be as tightly controlled (after sale) by Samsung, as the iPhone is by Apple (that still annoys me to this day).
John, I wish you all the happiness you can find in this new year. Mark
P.S. All of you know when the Samsung m800 comes out. I will get it and let all of you know, how it stands up against the iPhone...

I agree with the argument that everyone takes the idea of another and builds on it. But what make these phones rips of is the packaging, I am happy other touchscreen/keyboardless phones are appearing, but if you are going to put the "chrome bezel" and fashion the face of the phone around the screen to mimic the iPhone, then YES it is a wannabe. :2cool: I have Verizon in addition to AT&T for my iphone and before I got my iPhone I seriously considered the LG Voyager until I went to the verizon store and played around with it. And I can tell you that phone sucked in terms of being a iphone-esque device. It probably performs better as a phone, but everywhere else it sucked and this is coming from a owner of their previous verison of the VX series (VX9800) phone.

All tire manufacturer's make a tire that is black, round and made of rubber. Does that mean that you would solely purchase from one tire manufacturer, because all tires are a copy cat of the first tire makers design??? It doesn't get anymore simple, than this example I have given. Mark

Iphonian, you are comparing apples (no pun intended :2cool:) to oranges, the tire example does not fit this scenario, black tires are the basic component of rubber, so of course all tires will be black. BUT the chrome bezel and the front face of the phone that the iphone has is NOT a basic component of cellphones, so to use that portion of the design is RIPPING OFF Apple's design plain and simple. It's not a bad thing to do so, but a spade is a spade.

this picture has an error. since when does sprint/Nextel have full bars? I believe that this phone is really trying hard to be an iphone. The Chrome Bezel, The position of the camara, and just to get really picky even the space that is left between the screen and the bottom buttons are just like the iphone. It amazes me how Much of an impact the iphone really did. Everytime i see a new phone ad everyone says its an "iPhone Killer" The Voyager, Someone told me the The BB Curve, I have even heard that the New Sidekick is comparable (LOL I Laughed) and so many others i won't even mention. all i can say is that its cool for other companies to make finger touch phones. They can try and try, but as of now even without cut and paste and MMS the iPhone is in another league.

I think that Samsung really should have left out the chrome bezel. The chrome bezel of the iPhone is very nice, but when it starts getting scratched, it takes away from the beauty of the phone. I carry mine commando style. I got tired of the case covering up the beautiful design. I figured it's only a phone, can't keep it brand new forever...Mark

You are better than me, I don't dare take my iphone out of it's case. I am careful with all my phones, but the iphone more than normal since it's not insurable and I am the type that the slightest dent or nick will eat me up inside...lol.
I think samsung just like LG is providing iPhone "alternatives" since, AT&T has the iPhone under lock and key for the time being. All that is left is a knock-off for t-mobile and then everyone will have a iSomething of their very own...lol

I was like that at first, but with a new iPhone (that I will surely buy) coming soon. I just couldn't continue constantly covering up, the most beautiful phone I have ever seen. Most cases scratch the iPhone in some way, anyway. I just decided to go commando. The wear and tear will also give me justification to buy iPhone v2 when it comes out. I have to continue to find ways, to convince myself to continue spending crazy dollars, on all my gadgets each year.
We are living in a great time, as far as electronics are concerned. All the new technology is both, unbelievable and very satisfying to my electronics addiction. Did I mention that I was cross addicted??? I love and buy ALL manufacturer's technology. I feel like, how can I truly tell the greatness of one product, if I have not tried them ALL??? Mark:laugh2:
P.S. I am also very vain (forgive me, I'm trying to work on that), so I wanted everyone to see. The nice shiny Apple logo on the back. Correct me if I'm wrong, but what is the point in purchasing a status symbol (well it was until the price drop) then covering up the symbol??? Mark

These 'copy cats' remind me of someone who, after watching a Bruce Lee movie, tries to mimic Bruce and then calls himself a kung-fu master.
Can they copy the smooth, clear, almost magical user interface? Probably not. I'm not an Apple fanboy, I'm like iPhonian--I like gadgets from any maker. But Apple has always been known for it's quality and originality. Always. Samsung makes great products, but the m800 is just a knock-off. It's not nearly as pretty and sexy as the iPhone, I'll bet the UI won't be as smooth and fluid as the iPhone, and sure it'll have some things that Apple left out, but only because ppl have complained so much about what the iPhone doesn't have that other phone makers now know what to include with their devices. But Apple does too, now, so they will probably come out with the features soon (I hope) that the other knock-offs are going to include OOTB. Hell, if someone came out with a better phone that the iPhone it would be great, cause the iPhone is already awesome!

I think the chrome bezel is the very worst part of the iPhone's design and I think apple does too as they later released the touch with a much better solution with the matte black finish on the bezel.
To me the most interesting iPhone imitator and definitely of the samsungs' would have to be the Samsung Armani. Love it, except the price. Full touchscreen w/ haptic feedback, 3.2 mp cam+vid, no chrome bezel, much more pocketable size, and on and on.
